After doing my summer reading post for y’all, I thought it would be fun to do a summer reading post for the chillin’s. Since I am a very nostalgic person, most of my picks are ‘old school’. Hope you enjoy reminiscing!
Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
I love this book because everyone wakes up on the wrong side of the bed some days! It shows you how Alexander gets through his maddening day and kids love it!
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett
What kid doesn’t dream of a town that rains juice, and snows mashed potatoes? In the land of Chewandswallow it does! This story is imaginative and creative and silly! What kid wouldn’t love that? Great for all ages.
Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey
A Caldecott Winner, this book has fun noises, animals and adventure. Sal goes blueberry picking with her mother the same time baby bear goes with his mother, and they end up trailing the wrong moms! The blueberry colored illustrations leave you craving your own pail of blueberries!
Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish
These books are for ages about 4th grade and up. Amelia Bedelia the literal- minded maid makes even the most arduous chores funny! These books teach how the English language can be misunderstood and to kids we don’t always say what we mean. They make you think!
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle by Betty MacDonald
If your momma didn’t read these books to you, your childhood was a waste! I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough so I can read these to her. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is the quirky widow of a pirate who we all wish lived down the street. She has a cure for every childhood “ailment” from tattletales to bullies to picky eaters. Highly recommended!!
