Biz For Kidz

Our Giveaway Ends Tomorrow!
Are your kids bored? Need cash? Give them ideas for summer jobs!

On a hot summer day a lemonade stand is perfect! Prepare the lemonade the night before. For She One’s awesome lemonade recipe, click here. Refill the ice cube trays several times and store the ice cubes in a large plastic bag in the freezer. Make large colorful signs to advertise, consider offering large and small cups. On the day of the sale, place your lemonade stand in a good location. Take along a cooler for the ice and a money box with change in it. Look for weekend garage sales or events at a nearby park.

Pet care. Whether it’s dog walking, pet sitting, or pet grooming, there’s always need for help with pets. If neighbors are going on vacation, pet sitting is great if they can leave the pets home so your child can go to their house and feed, water and exercise them. Smaller pets could come to your house- if you allow it of course! Get written, detailed instructions from the owners, and a phone number of a vet. Pet grooming is another option if you are willing to get wet. Make sure you have an area that is secure, so no animals escape. After all of this pet care your kids might think twice on asking you again for one of their own!

Kids love to get wet! Have a car wash! Get them in their suits, get some buckets with soap, towels, a few brushes and let ‘em have at it! Make sure all the windows and doors are closed, and the hand brake is on. You could have them do just the outside or if you have older kids, let them vacuum and do the mirrors inside also. Charge extra for waxing and polishing. At family functions, or parties at your home, ask if you can wash cars while the owners are visiting. Have plenty of supplies on hand- especially towels and cloths.
Gift wrapping during the holidays would be a great job! Before they start wrapping gifts for other people, have them wrap odd shapes around the house with newspaper. Then when you think they are ready, have them wrap a nice box with wrapping paper, a bow and a gift tag. That way they can show their work to potential customers. Start with neighbors and busy working moms and dads. Allow the customers to choose the wrapping paper and the gift tag. Make sure they have all the materials with them and allow ample time to finish the job to everyone’s satisfaction.
Have fun!!

  1. Good ideas, sista! When I was little I had a paper route…well, my Dad did the brunt of the work, but we got up every morning at 5 to deliver. It was a great learning experience for me and my siblings. Like I was telling you before, I’m sure there are plenty of people that would pay to have their weeds pulled! Me, for one. I always need babysitters too…just some extra ideas….

  2. Great idea about the gift-wrapping. Never thought of that, and that’s something that often gets so overwhelming.

When my sister was a teen, she got good at making bread, went around with samples to the neighbors, and took orders for loaves of fresh, hot bread to be delivered. She was swamped with orders.

  3. I love that idea…selling bread to the neighbors. It could totally work with cookies, selling veggies in the garden, etc. I love it….and I love homemade bread!

  4. When I was a kid my dad planted 50 tomato plants. He had us girls help take care of them. Then we would pick them and pull them in our wagon, selling them to all the neighbors! Ah…memories…:)

  5. I’m planning on having a lemonade stand with the kids I baby-sit for :) I think I’ll let them keep the money :)
