Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you my love for ice cream. I keep hoping soon that I will grow out of it, but so far it hasn’t happened. I have been trying to pick “healthier” ice cream options, and my book Eat This Not That, helps me choose. It is quite surprising some things you pick aren’t the better choice.
Eat This: Edy’s Slow Churned Yogurt Blends
100 calories for 1/2 cup 3 g fat and 13 g sugars
Not That: Edy’s Slow Churned Mint Chocolate Chip
170 calories for 1/2 cup 9 g fat and 15 g sugars
The chips are made of partially hydrogenated coconut oil- a no no!
Eat This: Haagen Dazs Chocolate Sorbet (1/2 cup)
130 calories, .5 g fat, and 20 g sugar
Not That: Haagen Dazs Mango Sorbet (1/2 cup)
120 calories, 0 g fat, and 36 grams of sugar.
Unfortunately a half cup serving has nearly as much sugar in it as a can of coke. So you are better of going with the Chocolate sorbet and sacrificing 10 calories.
Eat This: Skinny Cow Vanilla with Caramel low fat Ice Cream Cone
150 calories, 3 g fat, and 19 g sugar.
Not That: Nestle’s Drumstick
360 Calories (Doh!) 22 g fat, and 29 g sugar
Eat This: Klondike Slim A Bear
100 calories, 1.5 g fat, and 10 g sugar
Not That: Weight Watchers Vanilla Round Ice Cream Sandwich
140 calories, 2 g fat, and 12 g sugar
These are the best for a quick fix with only 15 calories!!

How funny that Klondike beats Weight Watchers! Good to know, good to know…
Luckily, I’m not a big ice cream fan. I only like it soft and it takes too much effort to make normal ice cream soft and creamy, and my teeth are sensitive…so, I hardly ever buy it. However, I do like that sorbet…the chocolate sounds yuck…so I’m sad you showed me how bad it is!
Thanks for the link to the book… I just ordered three of them
I indulged last night in a little of the slow churned praline pecan… HAD to have it
Is Edy’s the same as Dreyer’s? It looks like the same packaging. I LOVE the DREYER’S SLOW CHURNED ice-cream. Actually I prefer it over anything else! It’s yummy and not as rich as regular icecream.
BTW Mariel, the slow churned ice cream tends to be softer than regular ice cream. I am there with you, I like my ice cream soft too!
Stopping by from SIT. Great tips thank you so much!!!
Also, I wanted to invite you to my raffle on Spirit Jump. $1 for 1 ticket and each week (starting Sundays) we have new prizes like airline tickets, grills, jewelry…All $ goes to fight cancer.

I have this book too, and I love it…but it is not ice cream that weakens my will power…it is chocolate and movie treats….
yummmmmmmm
Dani,
Darn-it! Now that you told me it’s soft…I’ll probably have to get some! I’ve been so proud not to have an ice-cream need. So, if I love this stuff and crave it all the time, you are in big trouble!
Mariel
p.s. thanks for commenting! we love hearing from our readers!
mmmm ice cream!
Hate to say it, but I may stop reading your blog…You are saying it is ‘BAD’ TO EAT MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM?!?!? ARE YOU CRAZY!!!! (or whoever wrote the book!) haha, I think you are..
While these may be great tips for some, I will have to turn you down on this one…well, at least the top two options…The others are great, but I really can’t live without my mint chocolate chip…(really…I may die!)
Great post though! Sounds like a great book. Thanks for sharing!
Dani- Edy’s and Dryers are the same thing…. It’s my fave too!
and Bre- I totally understand! I can’t give up my ice cream- this way I can have it more often! Thanks for commenting!
