All Things Photography ~ Online Lessons & Cool Stuff!

So, my Lover-Boy/Beard-Man/Sugar-Daddy came through and got me a camera for my birthday! I’ve been needing this for so long! Thank you, Dan! Seriously, the camera I have been using was being held together by duct tape. Nice, huh? Duct tape, gotta love it. Did you know duct tape is sometimes recommended by doctors for curing warts??? Just read that. Anyway, so my brain is totally wrapped around cameras right now…I’m dreaming of all the things I need to go along with it. There is this super-great lens…I might have to secretly buy….don’t tell.
Here are some of the other things I have my eye on:
This SD card is crAAAAAAAAAAAAzy! It’s wireless enabled so you don’t have to use your USB cable to get the pictures on the computer, you don’t even have to put your SD card in the computer! Your pictures will be sent to the computer just by turning your camera on. They will even go to the folder you want them too. Oh-seriously-baby. I really want the one for my video camera…I never take the videos off the camera cause I can’t find the cord for it! Best of all is that the price is actually pretty darn fair! $49.99 for a 2 gig. Read more about it, here.

If I break down, break rules, and buy that lens…I might need to have a cutie-pie cover for it too! I love these! Priddy Creation’s Lens Cozy, $21.99
And, who wants a boring Nikon Strap? Seriously. I am ANYTHING but boring and my camera better do it’s job of expressing that to people. PhatStraps Hipster Camera Strap, $27.

I LOVE this camera bag! Does someone want to get it for me??? You would SO be my best friend, for at least a week. Gypsy Rose Camera Bag, $98.

Want to learn how to use your camera in the Manual Mode and get way better pictures? This book got perfect reviews, the most reviews, and is the best selling digital photography book on Amazon! It’s now on my wish list. The Better Photo Guide to Digital Photography, $16.47

Here’s their other fabulously rated book, specifically for photographing children…and I know we all do that! The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children, $16.47.

So, a while back…before I had my “real” camera I saw that Two Peas In A Bucket was doing FREE online photography lessons. It was a 12 week FREE program that teaches you to use an SLR and just be a better photographer. They even had assignments for the week so you could practice what you learned. Anyway, I like the simplicity of them, the pictures and they were so well written. I downloaded them and just barely started printing them off to use along with my new camera. Do you want them too? Here’s the link to all of them….12 Online Photography Lessons.

  1. Oooh, aaagh. I wish I was a photographer. Thanks for the awesome link!

  2. Fabuolous!

  3. Any recommendations for a really great point and shoot??

  4. Hmmm….point and shoot. Well, I’ve been through a bunch of them and felt super frustrated because indoor/low light shots would turn out horrible/blurry. I have a HUGE peeve about blurry pictures. I only liked the pics I took outside. That’s why I decided I need to buck up and learn to use an SLR so I have more control.

I have always been leery to recommend cameras because for one…I don’t know that much! For two, because it opens a can of worms. So many people have varied opinions on the subject. But, I found this link for you that might help you out…

It seems to have some good, knowledgeable recommendations.

    Thanks for coming by!

  5. I have this Canon…

I love it but don’t really know what I am doing yet! It is supposed to be a hybrid of a point and shoot and an SLR.

  6. Wow love the post. I need a new camera also.

  7. You are opening Pandora’s box. Once opened you will never close it! congrats on the new camera, for sure get the lens and thank you for finding a hip and functional camera bag. My “free one” just busted.

  8. congrats. Cool bags and stuff. I had a camera for 4 years before I braved shooting in manual mode. It was slow at first relearning to shoot but it takes better pictures so you might as well check out the classes and learn your fstops and shutter speeds to start so you don’t have to relearn. and your camera has a built in light meter so if you are not a technician and more of an artist you can use point and shoot method.

  9. I want to hear more about what DSLR cameras readers have, love, hate etc… I’m ordering both books becuase I want to be able to take great picutres of my kiddos.

I only have a point and shoot now, but would be willing to make the investment to DSLR if I could find one that came recommended.

  10. My husband gave me the Nikon coolpix P90 for my birthday last month and I’m dying to figure out how to use the thing. The manual was enormous and overwhelming but I’ll just take it one step at a time. I’m so excited! I too am bothered by blurry pics so I need to master my photography skills so those pics come out crystal clear. Good luck and thanks for the tips and mentioning those books! Just what I need :)
