Beauty Saving Tips

Try cutting back on your beauty expenses, and you’ll realize you are more high maintenance than you thought! Sometimes I’d rather go without dinner than not having my eyebrows waxed! Here a a few beauty saving tips that your hubby and your wallet will be thanking you for!
Makeup
Don’t pump your mascara brush, this lets air in and dries out the color. Instead, try twisting the wand as you draw it out.
Pale pink eye shadow is a multi-tasker: apply under the eyes before concealer to neutralize dark circles, beneath the brows to shape them, and on top of cheekbones for a perfect highlight.
Get a free lipstick when you return six M.A.C. containers to a M.A.C. counter.
Before buying a foundation at a department store, ask the makeup counter saleswoman, if she’ll put some in a travel-size bottle to try at home.
There’s usually a quarter of an inch left of lipstick in the tube that you can’t see. Use a brush to scoop out an additional 3 weeks worth of color. Add a bit of lip balm for a sheer tint.
Hair Care
Make your haircut last longer.
As soon as you step in the shower, put conditioner on your dry ends, then wash and condition as usual. This move helps prolong a cut on the verge of looking grown out.
Use a natural bristle brush
This helps pull scalp oils through your hair. Doing this daily is like giving your locks a conditioning treatment.
Hide forehead lines with bangs instead of botox.
Save on frizz fighters.
If you have coarse or curly hair, instead of rinsing out every bit of conditioner, leave 10 to 20 percent in (hair will still be a little bit slippery)
Skin Care
Buy facial peel pads from a dermatologist, presoaked with high percentages of active ingredients, such as salicylic or glycolic acid. A 60 pad jar will cost less than a facial.
Squirt a little lemon juice into your favorite face scrub to boost it’s natural brightening power and exfoliating action.
Brew green tea in a pitcher and chill it in the fridge. Immerse two cotton rounds in the tea and smooth over your face to decrease redness and shrink pores.
Hands and Feet
Check your medicine cabinet for unused face creams with anti-aging ingredients or alpha hydroxy acids. Instead of tossing them, repurpose as hand or cuticle creams that smooth and exfoliate.
Warm a quarter of a cup of olive oil, then stir in the contents of a vitamin E capsule and some lemon juice for a soothing/ sloughing hand or foot soak.
Instead of an expensive girls night out at the spa, try one in. Send the kids and hubby out, make some snacks and give each other facials, pedicures, manicures and yep massages!

What have you done with your beauty regimen to save a penny?

  1. Love the tips!
I’ve started using cheaper products from the drugstore. You can find really good reviews online of what drugstore products work and what doesn’t. You can also get coupons for these easier then for the department store brands.

  2. I’m and deffinitely trying the green tea thing.

  3. Lemon in facial scrubs, I like it!

  4. I think I save money by hardly wearing makeup! I’m find putting on makeup and fixing my hair a total drag…so, I only do it when I have to! Ends up being like twice a week!

  5. Great tips!! I have been saving a fotune in makeup since I rarely put it on! I only put it on when I have to go out.. say dinner etc. I work from home so dont need to put on makeup daily.

  6. Great tips! I think I forgot to say I was stopping over from SITS.

  7. Mariel, you are so beautiful you don’t need makeup! A great tip I have learned is when your mascara is on it’s last legs and drying out. Add a drop of water on the brush, pump a few times and ouila! It’ll last an extra week or two.
