French Peasant Bread

My cute sister-in -law Melissa made this bread at a family get together one night, and everyone loved it! It’s so cozy and warm and hearty- just pull pieces off and dip in soup or just eat it plain… super easy too!
Here are your ingredients: Salt, cornmeal, oil, flour, warm water, yeast, butter and sugar.

Place yeast, sugar, water and salt in a bowl. Stir until dissolved.

Add flour and stir until blended. Do not knead. Cover, and let rise one hour or until it has doubled in size.

Flour hands, remove dough from the bowl, and place in two rounds on an oiled baking sheet, sprinkled with cornmeal. Let rise an additional hour. Brush the top with melted butter, and bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees and cook an additional 15 minutes.

Remove from oven, and brush again with melted butter. Serve warm.

  4. o yum. This is almost exactly like the “Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day” thingy. Have you seen that? The main difference is you put an old pan (like a broiler pan) underneath where the bread will be, while the oven’s preheating, and throw in a cup of water to make it steamy in the oven. Ohhhh the crust.
