Great Books For Boys

I love this book because boys and parents alike, can totally relate to the little rascal. Whether he is running down the street in his underwear, or chewing with his mouth open it makes you smile! Amazon. 4.99 for paperback. Ages 3 to 6.

Boys should be boys, and this book lets them! Where The Wild Things Are, lets their imaginations go wild after being sent to their rooms. Dark forests, monsters, adventure, being king of all things terrible- what more could a boy ask for? Amazon $10.50. Ages 4 to 8.

You can’t go wrong with The Wimpy Kid series my friends! These books will keep your boy reading and will love them! Greg an “indoor kid” trying to make his summer better, while mom wants to have family fun. Humorous, with great illustrations, Amazon reviewers raved their kids couldn’t put them down! Amazon $9. Ages 9-12.

Remember this book? Maniac is a boy’s boy. He can outrun dogs, jump fences and tie a knot no one can undo. But even better, he bridges the gap between racism in his neighborhood. He learns not everything is perfect. A great lesson for everyone. Amazon $7. Ages 9-12.

I hate to say it, but frankly I feel society has portrayed men and boys as selfish, egotistical imbeciles, (and while their may be many out there that fit that description), I think we women can help our sons to avoid that stigma. This book doesn’t ask for any apology for a boy to be a boy. Loved by dads and boys alike, it shows boys how to tie knots, play paper football, build forts, how to treat a girl and all about historical battles. Get them off the xbox and outside! Amazon $18. All ages.

The Last Mission had great review from high school teachers. They said their students loved it! This story is about a young soldier in WW 2 who by lying and using a false ID joins the Air Force. It also has a bit of a love story, and the boy makes it through the war. There is a little swearing, although not excessive. A great fiction, to help high school boys learn the experiences and tragedies of war. Amazon $7. Ages: young adult.

What does your boy like to read?

  1. Hey, this is a great list! My boy is only 8 months old, so we’re not quite yet to the reading stage, but I remember that all the boys in my elementary school classes loved reading Hatchet. I thought the whole “survival in the wilderness” thing was overrated.

  2. We have The Dangerous Book for Boys. My six year old LOVES it! He reads it while he is in bed. It has such great ideas for him to do with his dad.
He also loves the Magic Treehouse Books.

  3. Caden has also liked the Series of Unfortunate Events books, RL Stine books, and the Magic Treehouse…

    Great post!

  4. Thanks for the list. I have almost all of them. Percy Jackson’s Series of the Olympians is down-right addictive. My son has read 4 300+ pages books in 2 weeks.

  5. I have a 3 year old boy who is all about David and an 8 year old girl who is all about the Wimpy Kid and a 5 year old girl who is pretty much all about all things princess. :)

  6. My older son loves anything sports related. The Matt Christopher seriecs is really good. Thanks for giving me other options for him!!

  7. My 8 year old loves the Percy Jackson Series, the 39 Clues series and the Dragon Slayers Academy books. My 6 year old loves Flat Stanley, the Magic Treehouse books and The Bailey School Kids books.

  8. It’s so important to draw attention to reading, and attract reluctant readers to it,especially boys. In fact, I’ve recently completed a feature magazine article on this subject that came out in October, “Help for Struggling, Reluctant Readers.”

I grew up as a reluctant reader, in spite of the fact that my father published over 70 books. Now I write action-adventures & mysteries, especially for tween boys, that avid boy readers and girls enjoy just as much.

My blog, Books for Boys http://booksandboys.blogspot.com is dedicated to drawing attention to the importance of reading. And my new book, Lost Island Smugglers – first in the Sam Butler Adventure Series – is coming out in June.

    Keep up your good work.

  9. My 7 year old loves magic treehouse and also Hiro’s Quest.

  10. Have you read the Fly Guy books? My five year old is just starting to read independently, and he LOVES fly guy, they are funny and a little gross! Very high interest :)

  11. You must check http://www.dana-made-it.com
She is doing a whole month of boy crafts. You should join in. Too bad, I have no affiliation. Just a follower. I should be talking about my own blog. What’s wrong with me?!

  12. my son has all of them but the last mission and maniac magee.
    and i can say that they are great;}
