My Favorite Things ~ Green Style

Hands down, green is my favorite color.  No, not sage green, not dark green, not olive green…just green.  There’s just something about it, maybe that it reminds me so much of nature and plants…which I super love.  I love it so much that Ireland is at the top of my list of places to go.  I don’t know the first thing about Ireland, except that we have the same favorite color and we both like castles.  Oh, wait.  I forgot!  I DO know a few things about Ireland, because last year I totally read up on St. Patrick and shared the info with you in this post, “Who the Schmell is St. Patrick?“.

So, in honor of green (and St. Patrick’s Day), I thought I would share with you some of my favorite things…that are NONE other than, oh…green.

————————————————————————

First up, the Play and Freeze Ice Cream Ball…Ive got it in green.  Just dump the ice cream ingredients in one side of the ball and the salt/ice in the other side…roll around for about half an hour and you have some YUMMY, soft ice cream!  I was a little skeptical about this thing because some of the reviewers cried about it being heavy…which it is, if you plan on holding it up in the air for 30 minutes.  But, the other night, we turned on an episode of Little House on the Prairie…sat on the floor together, and rolled it back and forth.  It’s pretty easy, unless you’re a huge pansy.  We made vanilla ice cream but there are so many things you could make with it, sorbet, frozen yogurt, chocolate ice cream, mint, you name it!  Yes, an ice cream maker might be less work but it really was fun and my kids were so impressed that there was ice cream in there when we were done!  Perfect for family nights, camping, dates, etc.  P.S.  I actually have two of the quart size ones cause we want big servings and leftovers!  A quart size feeds roughly two adults and two kids…or just 3 adults.

Ahhh…Frog and Toad, my favorite amphibians.  Not to mention, they’re green…props for that.  These two cuties are the best of friends and have the sweetest experiences together, all with a dose of humor.  I love reading these books to my kids.  Timeless.

As mentioned in the Key Lime Pie post, I’m a HUGE fan of limes.  At first I was thinking of telling you how I really love Edy’s Whole Fruit Lime Popsicles…

But then, I didn’t want to leave out  Farr’s Lime Rickey Sherbet!  It is why I try to avoid the ice cream aisles at the Utah grocery stores….it’s too hard to pass up!  Speaking of…just lime rickey drinks are pretty darn fantastic!  They are the only carbonated beverage that I can drink without sipping…meaning, I can gulp.

I know, houseplants…boring, right??  Um, no!!  Do you know who you’re talking too??  Don’t you dare call my plants boring, it hurts their feelings.  I just realized I never did a follow-up lesson for my Houseplants for Beginners post.  I’ll have to jot that down.  Anyway, I have at least ten books on houseplants…still searching for the perfect one…and the one I want is 80 bucks.  But, this book, The Complete Houseplant Survival Manual is still a great reference.  It has full-color pictures and lots of great info.  Most of your typical plants can be found in here, giving you all the information you need on how much water they like, how much sunlight, humidity, etc.  I can’t wait for spring…I love seeing my plants go through their growth spurts :)   They’re so cute.

Shabby Apple is never short on fabulous dresses.  This “Sheep Meadow” dress is calling my name and I’m loving the kelly green!  So spring, so happy.  If I had it, it would BE a favorite thing…I just know it.

Okay, THIS movie just might be one of the greatest movies, EVER!  Every single-dingle song on Pete’s Dragon gives me a perma-grin!  I forced it on my children so much, now we can sing all the songs together!  Elliott is by far the coolest dragon I’ve ever known.

I love the “oldies”…I wish I could still hear them on the radio like I used to.  They’ve been replaced with the new “oldies” (the 70′s), which I still love…but, I love the happiness of the 50′s and 60′s music.  One band that I loved and still do is The Turtles!  You’ll most likely remember the songs, “Elenore” and “Happy Together”, but this album has a whole slew of great ones.

Okay, I’m officially brain-dead right now, so I’m going to go see who got kicked off American Idol and text Jessica my thoughts.  But, have a wonderful day :)   Go green!

  1. Hey at least you get a little bit of exercise with that ice cream maker!!! I love it, sounds really neat!!!

  2. Super post my friend. I love Green. I feel at home in Oregon and Seattle with a good patch of moss. If I could I would paint my house inside and out green somewhere. That dress is TO DIE FOR. And houseplants, it is suicide in my house. Unless it is on a timer, it won’t get watered. Have a weekend, a really good weekend.

  3. I don’t know how it happend; how this color could pulverize RED, but GREEN has become my new favorite color! My water bottle’s green. My favorite shirt and purse are green. My Zune is green. I didn’t even realize that it had replaced the RED in my heart until I was shopping and the sales clerk sarcastly said,

“You like Green?” (I was buying a green shirt, whilst wearing a green shirt AND carrying my fav green purse).

“How can you tell?” I replied.

RED will be so sad, that this GREEN monster is taking me down, but I can’t help it!

My name is Susan and I’m a GREEN addict.

Thanks and have a nice day!

  4. I luuuurve the color green tons lately! I’m so glad you included Pete and his buddy:)

  5. Wow… I had forgotten about Frog and Toad! I had a few of those books when I was a child, and I watched “Pete’s Dragon” and sang the songs!

Yummm… Edy’s fruit bars… soooo good! I’ve never tried the kiwi, but the coconut and strawberry were delicious, so I’m going to have to try the kiwi.

    Great post Mariel!
