Balloon Flip Flops (she: Roberta)

Hi Roberta here again! Hope you are enjoying my guest posts! I wanted to introduce you to the awesome man in my life! This is Steve! We have been married 10 amazing years and each day just gets better and more exciting! We have 2 great kids and love going on vacations and taking walks. Today I am going to teach you how to make these stylin, trendy balloon flip flops!

I made these with a group of 11 year old girls! They did a fantastic job! It takes about 1 hour to do a pair of flip flops. These are so fun for the summer, and you will get comments on them wherever you go! Make these for yourself, your daughter or a friend. It’s also a great craft for the kids. Send them outside on the porch and have them tie, tie, tie! You can use a pair of flip flops you currently have or buy a nice new clean pair. At Old Navy they are 2 pairs for $5!

What you will need:
200 water balloons-I buy mine at Walmart or All A Dollar
Flip Flops

Directions:
Double knot the water balloons around the thong of the flip flop. I also think it looks better if you do a pattern of your color choice. For instance, pink, green, purple, blue, yellow, orange, repeat. Make sure the knot is on the outside part of the flip flop. You will tie 50 balloons on each thong part.

Have fun!

  14. I love this idea.Making some right now!

  15. wow, those are so cute. I have been selling these sandalloons since 2001, and they have really envolved. Where did you see these at?
I turn down two business deals already to market them cuz they are just fun to do.
I sold 5,000 pairs my first 25 months.
    good job you did.

  16. I do this with Yarn and sometimes beads. i can crochet three or four stands of yarn onto a pair in about 10 mins. I sell them at the salon i work at conviently placed near the Pedicure station. i’ve sold over 75 pair so far. Bonus they are much softer and you don’t have to worry about Latex alleries. These are very cute though!

  17. Do you mind sharing how you do this with yarn?  I am latex allergic and think yarn would be wonderful!  Thanks

I am going to make these for my daughter and my niece! I hope they turn out as cute as the one that are done!

  20. Is this a craft 5 and 6 year olds can do?

    • orsoshesays says:

My son was probably 5 ½ the year that we did these for our Fourth of July booth. He didn’t have a problem tying the balloons on, but it was a little tricky for him to get the balloons close to each other. So, every once in a while, I would slide his tied balloons close to each other on the flip flop strap, then let him tie more on.

  21. Teen DIY Queen says:

so how could you sell them? I mean like I would love to make these (I’m going to, I’m making my sis go to the dollar store for me) and selling them would be awesome. Any ideas?

    • orsoshesays says:

We sold them at a 4th of July fair, my kids set up a booth. However, the most they would sell for is about eight bucks, which to me wasn’t worth it…especially when we had to lower the price to five, to clear the rest out. These take too long to make just one pair, to only make like five bucks profit. I think these are better to make with little girls at a bday party or for a random summer craft. Or, if you want to sell them, sell it as a craft kit, where people buy a bag of the flip flops an balloons, so hey can make it themselves. Have a pair that is already made, so they can see an example.

set up a page on facebook to sell, ebay, etsy.com, craigs list, arts and craft shows, farmers markets, craters malls, or homemade boutiques….there are so many ways to sell….consignment stores….the possibilities are so Huge….good luck!

  22. Would you also send me directions on how you did it with yarn? Thanks
