Mother’s Day Gift Ideas, Part 2

 
I love putting together “theme gifts,” and last year I shared some Mother’s Day Ideas (Part 1) for: the baker, the bird/nature lover, the book worm, diva, and gym rat.  So, I thought I would do that again this year…with different themes, of course.

Alright, first up…
~ The Traveler ~
This book looks SO neat!  And, who would know the best trips to take better than National Geographic?!?  It’s a great book for vacation ideas that also gives tips/suggestions for traveling in that location, helpful web sites, best times to visit, maps, etc.
Reviewers RAVE about the DogBones Chiropractic Neck Pillow!  It makes sleeping during travel more comfy and people are even replacing their bed pillows with it!  It aligns your neck and head just right to help relieve neck/back pain.  The best part, it’s only $10 bucks!  (There’s several colors to choose from)
Ticket to Ride is easily one of the most popular board games out there!  Build your trains across the country and claim the most railway routes…this games involves lots of strategy and luck!  I personally love that the games don’t go on for hours (like Monopoly or Risk…ugh).  This is a great one for an adult get-together!
~ The Golfer ~
As a golfer, myself…I can personally vouch for the Wilson Golf Bag Score Keeper.  The Beard Man got fed up with my lack-of-ability-to-remember-my-score, so this has been so handy!  You just attach it to your bag or your belt loop and every time you hit, click the little golf ball.  It will tally up the score for each hole and will keep the running total.  I know, I know…it’s not so hard just to do it on the score card.  But, I’ve already lost track of my swings by the time I get back to the cart to write them down on the card.  Brain-dead.  Oh, and it’s just $7.50.
Every golfer has to practice and sometimes it’s nice to do it in your own yard.  That’s why I love the P3 Almost Golf Practice Balls.  They are a bit pricey for fake balls but they are the best rated and respond the most like a real golf ball.  They’re also soft so you can hit them at anything without damage.  I like to whack them into the side of my house.  $30 for 36 balls.
 
A hat is a MUST while golfing.  Luckily, most golf courses have dress codes because it takes everything I have not to strip naked in the blaring Utah sun.  Hats obviously help keep the sun out of your face, but also help you see the ball soaring through the bright sky.
~ The Gardener ~

All gardeners should be aware of the super-efficient technique behind “square foot gardening”.  You can grow lots more veggies/fruits and plants in a small confined spot.  Rows and rows of garden creates wasted space.  Read all about the method in the book “All New Square Foot Gardening“.  I have the book already, so I’m thinking I might hint to the Beard Man that I would love for him to build my garden boxes for Mother’s Day.

The Rumford Gardener’s Kneeler/Seat is something I’ve been eyeing for a while.  It’s the worst pulling weeds and planting while either squatting or kneeling in the dirt.  I toggle back and forth, getting tired in either way of the awkward positions.  This little doo-dad solves both problems…it serves as a bench to sit on while gardening OR you can flip it over and kneel on the soft pad.  If you need help off the ground the handlebars are great for pushing yourself back up. $41.
The right kind of gardening shoes are important.  I love Crocs for several reasons:  they can get dirty and be cleaned easily, the “classic” style has more ventilation around the sides (sweaty feet are gross), you can easily slip the on/off to run in/out of the house AND they offer better protection for my feeties from the poison ivy and spiders in my yard.  I have a tendency to wear flip flops (cause it can be dang hot)…but, I got some pretty gruesome poison ivy rashes on my feet last year. 
~ The Crafter ~
I can’t tell you how many scrapbooking paper trimmers I have tried…you know the kind where you slide the blade across the paper??  I’ve never been impressed with the life of the blades or the exactness of the lines.  When I get to the bottom of the paper, it does a little shift.  Maybe it’s just me…OR, maybe not!  The Tonic Studios Guillotine Paper Trimmer is highly raved about by scrapbookers and crafters alike!  It’s 12×12, so it’s not huge and bulky…and it gets the job done right!
No, it doesn’t HAVE to be a book about making jewelry…but, if mom likes crafting, help her pick up a new hobby!  Find a book that gives tutorials and ideas on a skill (scrapbooking, jewelry making, mosaics, knitting, modge podge, needle crafts, polymer clay, candle making, soap making, stained glass, leather work, etc.).  Along with the book, pick up some basic supplies to get started and complete the first project.
Another favorite tool of crafters, the Xyron 900 is what you need to turn anything flat into a sticker, magnet, or laminate…fabric, photos, paper, leather, ribbon, cards, etc.  There are smaller versions for a lot cheaper (but, you are more limited as to what can be run through).  This model runs around $85 dollars.  With the craft store’s 40% coupons, you may even be able to get a great deal (if the coupon applies!).  If not, for sure use the coupons on replacement cartridges.
~ The Busy Body ~
Salon treatments are a great gift for the mom who just needs to SLOW down and relax a little.  You can give gift cards for massages, facials, manicures or pedicures.  If you are doubtful that the busy-body will actually make the appointment, schedule one for the both of you!  It’s a great excuse to get in on the good stuff.
What mom doesn’t need some help around the house to relieve some stress?  Remember Tonya’s fabulous idea (from just yesterday) of doing a family service day for mom?  I would LOVE it, who wouldn’t??  The fam gathers at the house to complete a list of long-ignored projects for mom.  Just the thought of it makes me smile…and want.

    Great finds! I have to admit that I like the whimsical wind chime the best. Would look perfect hanging in a kitchen window. Great conversation piece as well!

    I made the plate pedestal for mother day gifts for my sister and sister in laws and they all loved it. They couldn’t belive I had made them and it was a very inexpensive gift and a very nice one too. Thanks for the Ideas.
