Buying Clothes for Preteen Boys Shouldn’t Be So Hard!

My cute neighbor was asking me the other day if I knew of any good stores for boys who are in the “in between” age, 10-12 or so. She said American Eagle, Hollister, Pac Sun and Zumies are still too old, but everything else seems to young. I told her there must be other moms in the same situation, and that I would research it for her. Sheesh! It was a bit difficult, but y’all gave me some good direction!

All kids want to “fit in” but that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank! Kohl’s has a great selection for “tweenage” boys. They carry name brands such as Vans, Tony Hawk, Nike and Urban Pipeline. Kohl’s has great coupons and discounts going on all the time!

Tony Hawk Shirt on sale for $18.99 at Kohl’s

Every boy needs a hoodie or a sweatshirt! JC Penny’s has a “plethera” of them, and guess what? They have them with washable headphones in the hoodies drawstrings! (Because you want your boys to pay attention to their teachers right?)

I had never heard of Dr. Jays, but they had a ton of stuff just for “tweenage” boys. I went straight to the “sale” section, and I think your boys would be pretty impressed. These Ecko shorts are pretty cool. They have sizes 8-20.

This flannel slider shirt is on sale for $12. You can’t go wrong with that!

Dr. Jays is the place, and they have a lot to choose from in sizes 8-20.

Lands End is classy and durable- a must for boys! I like their pants….but I don’t know how many boys would dig corduroy’s. Maybe it’s a mama thing. I love that you can also get them in slim or husky. Right now if you buy more than one pair of curduroy’s or jeans you get $5 of each pair!

We all know Lands End is known for their outerwear…. check out their jackets! Love this Bomber jacket- for me!

Gap is good, but you’ll be on the border shopping in the large and xtra large sizes most likely. (Their shirts run smaller)

Basketball shorts are cool. These are on sale for $12.99

It’s always good to get a few of the classic “t” $7.99

I hope this helped!! Where do you get your boys clothes?

  1. Great picks, I was really impressed with Dr. Jay’s too! Why don’t kids like corduroys…it really MUST be a mom thing…cause I think they’re so hot!

  2. my ten (turning eleven next week) year old was difficult – but I kid you not we bought a shirt just like that Tony Hawk one (maybe with a touch more blue) and some plaid shorts VERY similar to the ones you’ve got pictured. It was WAY easier to shop for the 13 and 15 year old boys oddly enough.

  3. When my son was that age we both agreed on Old Navy. They offer a lot of their men’s looks in boy versions. :)

  4. Great suggestions. I have a 9 year old that is the size of a 12 year old, so that throws a whole other aspect of difficulty into the equation. I can still shop at Children’s Place…I never thought to try Kohl’s…duh!

Stopping over from Flamingo Toes. Great blog…I am a new follower.
