So, I know you’re all freaking out right now…I’m having a baby in 2 weeks (baby #5) and you can’t decide what the heck to get me!! Oh, the stress…I feel for you. So, I thought I would help you out by giving some ideas of things I would gladly accept
First, money. There are these really sweet shoes I’ve had my eye on from J.Crew…I think they’re like $295 bucks…so, any donations for shoes would be great. After all this heartburn, back aching, and feeling fat…don’t you think I deserve shoes??
K, second…I’m thinking I should get a personal invite to your condo, cabin, beach house, etc. I really need a break. A get-away, provided by you, would be heavenly. I’ll have to bring my five kids, but we don’t have any pets so you won’t have to worry about that. Oh, wait…I do have a little girl who tends to pee on the floor. But, I’ll clean it up.
Okay, I’m not at all serious. But, if you want to take me seriously…I won’t stop you.
Great Gifts for Mom
Mom had to do go through a lot to bring the babe into the world, and she’s tired. So, anything that shouts “relaxation” is perfect for mom.
Slippers
You all know I love my ugly (but comfy) Haflingers, but they can be a little out of “gift giving price range”…so, I’m not suggesting those. But, any mom would look comfy and cute in these Calypso Ballet Slippers by ACORN. This pink and the green color are so cute!
Lounge Clothing & Jammies
After mom gets home, she still needs to take it easy. That’s easier said than done, but she’s probably not up for “a night on the town.” Give her some cozy jammies to lounge in and make sure they’re cute (modest) enough that she can even answer the door in them! She’s going to be showing off the baby to lots of friends and family!
Massage Gift Card
After months and months of serious back ache, how about giving mom a gift card to get a massage??? Not only will it feel amazing but she’ll get at least an hour break from the kids…maybe offer to babysit too??
Babysitting
Yep, babysitting the older children. If you have any spare patience…mom would love to get a little down time while her body recovers. Don’t just offer and tell her to call, she never will. Set a specific date and be in charge of making it happen.
Frozen Meals
Dinners are always nice. Lots of times moms already have help lined up for immediately after the baby is born, so frozen dinners to pull out in those random times of complete exhaustion would be awesome! If you’re too busy to make one, just pick it up at the store or one of those “homemade dinner” shops.
Nursing Products
Mom’s boobs are going to be hurting for the next few weeks, so anything to make nursing easier would be much appreciated. By the way, if momma hasn’t had her baby yet, be sure to remind her to rub her nipples. Remember the old saying, “friends tell pregnant friends to rub their nipples.“
Some of my favorite nursing products for gift giving (or yourself)…
Nursing Covers
Whoever came up with the idea for nursing covers deserves a medal. They’re cute and they do the job better than any blanket can! Bebe Au Lait has the top rated nursing covers on Amazon, with lots of colors to choose from.
Maybe not as cute as the popular Boppy, but it sure kicks Boppy’s trash in reviews! It wraps all the way around the body, it’s not so bulky, offers better support (less back and shoulder pain), and if you have to get up while nursing…babe and pillow can come along with you. Different patterns often have different prices (they can vary a lot!), so if you think it’s too expensive, check out other fabric patterns or try ebay.
When you’re nursing a little babe, it seems like it’s ALL you ever do. You can’t remember when the last time you nursed was because it always seems like you just did finished AND…you’re running on a couple hours of sleep. Enter, the nursing bracelet. These bracelets have all the hours of the day on it, 1 to 12, and a removable charm that you place next to the number of the last time you fed the baby. There are usually 5 beads in between each number to represent 10 minute intervals. You also switch the bracelet from arm to arm to help you remember which side you nursed on last. (These bracelets can work for any other daily reminder as well, such as taking your medicines.) Etsy has a great selection of them and prices to suit every budget.
Great Gifts for Baby
Every mom loves cute outfits for the little ones, but maybe you want to give something a little out-of-the-box.
Here are some favorite gift ideas for new babies:
Not the cutest bear on the block, but I’m not kidding…babies LOVE the womb noise sound that this dude makes! I put it right next to their ear and when they start to fuss, a lot of the times the sound calms them right back to sleep, and I can get away with not doing an extra session of nursing! Tie a cute bow around his neck and he’s good to go. I mentioned this as a favorite item in a previous post I did, My Favorite Products for New Babies…so, check that out if you want more ideas too.
Photo Props
Sometimes its hard to spend money on things that aren’t super necessary…like cute photo props for the new baby. That’s why it’s fun to give them! Every mom loves taking pictures of their baby in cute tutus, adorable hats, and bows…again, Etsy has endless options. I particularly love the shop, Beautiful Photo Props.
Muslin Wraps
My cute friend, Kara, turned me on to these muslin wraps by Aden + Anais. They’re super soft, breathable, light weight, and a perfect size for swaddling. It’s seriously no wonder they’ve won several awards and get perfect 5 star reviews from everyone! They can be pretty pricey at boutiques (4 for $45) but Target recently started selling them for $29.99. You can also find them on Amazon for close to that.
Baby DVD’s
Even more than Baby Einstein, parents are loving HBO’s Classical Baby. They love that it’s cheaper and say it’s more engaging, the music is real (not baby tunes), and you have chapters to skip to certain songs. A three pack is only $19.49. Also, highly rated is the Signing Time series.
Well, I better call it a night. It’s one in the morning and the Beard Man is whistling for me! I hope this gives you some ideas…

I’m wondering if you don’t have any of these things so I can get you one of them for you and your bambino!
These are awesome ideas! Hey, I’m going to email you a guest post soon!
I, too, have 5 children and your suggestions are spot on. I’d like to add another DVD option for babes. Baby Signing Time by Rachel Carson. My baby and older children as well love these DVDs. We all get hooked right in whenever one is playing.
