How to Apply Makeup {she: Blushing Basics}

Kristie (a.k.a. Blushing Basics) is a lover of all things artistic, makeup just happens to be one of her favorite mediums. Working as a makeup artist she had several requests on this topic so she began posting video tutorials on how to apply make up here. Included in her blog are also tips, product reviews, and of course a little frugal fashion advice.

If you’re anything like me, you reached adulthood with very little knowledge of makeup. I can remember looking through magazines or watching movies and thinking “How do they do that?”. I would even go so far as to attempt the look myself only to find my clumsy attempt look clownish (we’ve all been there, right?).
Fast forward ten years and my makeup skills have come a long, long way. It doesn’t have to take a lot of time or expense to look good, it just takes a little know how. Understanding what colors work for you, where to apply the color for the best impact, are simple steps that can make you look your best.
Let’s begin with blush. This is a makeup step I never miss. Having naturally pale skin, blush is the essential ingredient that keeps my face looking healthy and vibrant. Getting that glow to your skin doesn’t have to be an enigma, in fact if you follow these simple steps you can be a pro in a matter of minutes.
Think of your skin as a canvas. You cannot create depth without more than one color. The same goes for your makeup. Using several shades helps create an illusion of height and depth when applied correctly. This video tutorial shows how to apply four shades of color to best enhance your cheeks.
For this tutorial you will need:
A highlight color, anything with shimmer, I use a creamy shimmer.
A contour color, this color will be used to create the illusion of shade, so try to keep it a cool gray/brown.
A bronzer, this just helps blend the blush and contour color together.
A blush color, be creative try a bubblegum pink or deep mocha. Alone, those colors might appear too dramatic, but combine them and it looks beautiful.
I hope this video tutorial was helpful. While my goal is to help people look good on the outside, it is how you feel about yourself that truly reflects beauty.
