Hello again! It’s Melissa. I last posted in December about our family’s Christmas Activity Advent. I am a stay at home mom to two children, ages 8 and 1, and my husband and I are coming up on 10 years of marriage this April! Woot woot!
I wanted to share with you today about the few times that rice has saved my life. (Well, not literally, but it has definitely made my life easier!)

Yes, Rice. And no, I’m not talking about eating it… Let me give you some background info here… So, just last week, I heard my little guy waking up from his nap, and as I walked into his room, I saw him get sick (sick…) ALL over his new ‘Little People Barn Set’ that he got for Christmas. I didn’t really think about it (I was trying too hard not to be sick too!) and threw all the toys in the bathtub full of water to soak before I disinfected. Trouble was that I remembered too late that the barn had wires and batteries, etc…. and yeah… it no longer made the cute noises that my little guy loved. So sad, live with it… right? WRONG!
Rice to the rescue! I dried things off as best as I could, and then filled a casserole dish with enough rice to set the bottom of the barn in (where all the wires, etc were). I left it for a couple of days, and VOILA! It was working again! Happy day!!
Rice is SO great for taking moisture out of things that just shouldn’t get wet! In fact, my sister accidentally washed her son’s iPod a couple of months ago, and RICE saved the day! She left it in a small bucket of rice for 2 weeks (just to be safe) and it’s working perfectly again!
I have had watches that stopped working because I forgot to take them off before swimming/showering, etc, and rice has reversed the water damage there too. Isn’t it amazing how something so small can be so great??!!
Another quick and easy use for rice is to throw a few grains of rice into your salt shaker — it prevents the salt from clumping up!
Anyway, if you couldn’t tell, I think rice is pretty nice, and I hope this helps someone out there as much as it has helped me!
