Folding Mini Paper Lucky Stars (she: Vanessa)

Hi! I’m Vanessa and I blog over at {nifty thrifty things}. My hubby and I are currently living in northern Germany (where I am from), but we met, fell in love and got married in Houston, Texas.  I just finished school and now hold a bachelor of science. I love decorating, designing and most of all, being thrifty. My little blog has been the most rewarding hobby. Not only is it a creative outlet for me, but it also gives me the opportunity to meet wonderful people from all over the world.

Recently, my hubby went out of town for the day. He went on a short trip to the Netherlands to meet up with a friend of his from Amsterdam and they met about half way in a small town called Groningen to have some man time.
So, since I wasn’t back to 100% after being sick, I just decided to stay home all day and enjoy some free time in our apartment. ;)   Ok, I must admit.. I did start missing the husband a little and distracted myself by being a little crafty.
I folded about 150 lucky stars. Be careful, it’s very addictive!
I threw together a little tutorial, if you want to try it yourself.
What you need:
  • paper in A4 or letter size, in your preferred color
  • scissors or x-acto knife
  • ruler

Cut the paper into strips. The width determines the size of the star. For the tutorial I used about 1/2 in. wide strips:

Start by tying the strips into a knot:

You’re on the right track if your knot looks like a pentagon:

Fold the little tail over:

Start folding the long tail around and around the pentagon:

Until you reach the end of the strip:

Tuck the end of the strip into the little pouch:

You’ll end up with this:

To make this pentagon a star, push gently with your fingernail on each side:

I even made a video tutorial to show the full process:

PS: It’s easiest if you don’t crease the sides of the pentagon too much when folding the strip.
