Ready for a little ‘ol gaudy ring bling?
A few weeks ago I was shopping at a nearby boutique with a few girlfriends. We all fell madly in love with a ginormous display of oversized cocktail rings. The bigger the better, am I right? Unfortunately they were priced at $20 a pop so window shopping was all we did.
What is the opposite of buyers remorse?
I love oversized rings, and I totally wished I would have bought one.
Lucky for me, a trip to Hobby Lobby a few days later revealed I could totally make my own for just a few bucks! Sweet!
Here’s what you need to make your own oversized cocktail ring:
-A package of ring pads. (Yes, they are really called that.)
These are found in the jewelry section and come in a variety of styles and finishes. You can splurge and buy silver or gold, but the nickel plated are great as long as you don’t plan to wear your rings every day.
-Necklace pendants or large polished stones
Be sure and shop at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s when they are having a good sale on jewelry.
-5 Minute Epoxy
If you purchase necklace pendants you will need to carefully remove any metal intended for attaching a necklace chain. Pliers and lightly sanding with a soft sand paper will do the trick.
After mixing the epoxy apply a generous amount to the ring pad. Place the ring upside down to dry, and wait at least 24 hours for it to set before wearing.
That’s it! A super easy and cheap way to make your own cocktail rings!
I happened to hit a great 50% off jewelry sale at Hobby Lobby and couldn’t believe I was able to make these cute rings for under $3 a piece.
Looks like I have one less gift idea to come up with for the holidays this year!
