My name is Kristy Sunday, I am married to Mariel’s brother Logan, and I feel honored to be able to post something on her blog! It’s so much fun to have such an amazing and talented sister-in-law! I live in South Ogden, Utah. I love spending time with family and enjoy all outdoor activities.
My entire life I have struggled with thin hair and wanted more!! So as a hairstylist and salon owner, I have been on a life-long mission looking for products to remedy thin hair, not only for myself and my family, but for my clients.
I have now worked in the beauty industry for 14 years, and have literally tried hundreds of products to help with thin hair. Today, I wanted to share some of my favorites and the reasons why they have won me over…
Let’s start with shampoo and conditioner:
I feel the Bosley line is the best on the market, it’s the one I like to use for myself. It has 10 times the amount of DHT blockers than its other competing lines, such as Nioxin or Rogaine. DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone, (which is a form of testosterone.) This is extremely important, because as women age they start producing less estrogen and more testosterone, which is why they start getting male pattern baldness. Testosterone is also responsible for hair loss in most men. What Bosely does is removes the DHT from your scalp daily as you use their shampoo. Their conditioner prepares your scalp for the thickening treatment which helps stimulate hair growth.
Bosely is also my favorite because it won’t dry out your hair like the competing lines, and they have four different formulas to fit everyone’s needs. They have a men’s line and also three women’s lines, one for color treated hair, one for thinning hair, and noticeably thinning hair.
So, Bosely’s shampoo and conditioner helps PREVENT hair loss, but the also have two modoxidil treatments, one for men and one for women. Modoxidil helps RESTORE hair which has been lost, without any horrible side effects.
Now, for my favorite styling aids:
L’Oreal Professionnel’s Force Vector Thermo Protector - It not only protects the hair from the heat of the blow dryer and hot tools, but also strengthens the hair strand. It has man made lipids that actually go inside the the hair strand and builds thickness and strength from the inside out.
Redken’s Woolshake – This is great to give your hair a wooly texture creating a dense feel to the hair. Great for women with shorter hair or great for just the top and roots of longer hair.
L’Oreal Professionnel’s Densité – A weightless all-over spray to thicken each hair strand.
L’Oreal Professionnel’s Lift Extreme - A great root lifter that is not sticky and will create extreme lift, just as it says. Great for those who round brush!
Redken’s Iron Silk – For those who like curls to last all day in their thin hair. This has a light yet strong hold. You put this in before blow drying to create a great surface to hold lasting curls.
L’Oreal Professionel’s Expansion - This is also weightless, great for long hair! It’s not heavy or sticky!
Favorite finishing products:
I like aerosol hair sprays. These don’t weigh down thin hair. L’Oreal Professionnel has four hairsprays that start with a lighter hold up to a really strong hold for those of you who like it stiff!
Bead Heads Masterpiece Hairspray – I love this one. It smells delicious and has a medium hold with tons of shine.
L’Oreal Professionnel Perfect Shimmer Hairspray – If you need more shine and luster, this is a great one.
Favorite styling aids for men:
Redken’s Woolshake -Men also like this to blow dry into their hair to create a thicker feel before styling.
Wicked Wax by Unite - I like to use this on men after using Bulk Up. Dry waxes will create definition without making the hair look wet and showing more of the scalp. Finish with an aerosol hairspray if needed.
Now for those who have tried everything on the market and it’s just not cutting it, Don’t give up!! I even have solutions for you!
I just found a line of extension hair this past year that has a full line of different kinds of hair accessories to meet everyone’s needs. It’s the same brand of hair pieces worn by Jessica Simpson, Wynonna Judd, Raquelle Welch, and many other celebrities. Its called Top Secret Haircessories, its an extensive line of hair. From bang pieces, to ponytail pieces, extensions to thicken and lengthen, to full top pieces for those who are visibly thinning on top.
All these hair accessories are safe and do not damage your hair or make it thinner. So don’t EVER give up!! I know how it is to be insecure because of thinning hair, but the solutions are out there and there is no reason to feel insecure. I just had a baby a year ago and my hair all started falling out. I was so freaked out because I already had thin hair to begin with. So I got a top secret hair piece and it has made the biggest difference! My mom who is also very thin got one and it has really changed her life! She is single and dating and it made her feel way more confident! She wears it everyday and loves it! She no longer has to style her hair either, she just takes it off at night and puts it on in the morning and looks fabulous in minutes! She has told me she will never go with out one again! I have a lot of members in my family who have top secret accessories and they all love them!
Here’s my mom before her Top Secret hair piece:
