Hello friends! It’s Jana from Double the Deliciousness with a perfect dessert for your Mother’s Day weekend! I figured I’d share a great recipe that you Dads, sons and daughters (or whoever!) can easily throw together for the Mom in your life! Chocolate is what speaks to my heart, so I figured we couldn’t go wrong with some brownies. What Mom wouldn’t love beautiful, chocolaty, frosted brownies for dessert? And help her feel your love with a cute powdered sugar heart on her piece!
I’m married to a brownie connoisseur. Thus, I have tried more brownie recipes than I can count in search for the perfect brownie that meets his expectations. (I personally haven’t met a brownie I didn’t like!)
We had a taste test at our house this week. I made the 2 brownie recipes that are my favorites and took a poll. It was a split vote with the kids…2 to 2. So, I had to go to the brownie connoisseur to cast the final vote, and these frosted brownies, my friends, are the winner!
Mom’s #1 Frosted Brownies (she: Jana)
Ingredients
For the brownies
- 1 cup butter 2 sticks
- 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate
- 5 eggs
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped walnuts optional
For the frosting
- 2/3 cup 1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4-5 tablespoons milk
Instructions
For the brownies:
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9 x 13 inch pan with tinfoil. Lightly grease tinfoil with cooking spray.
-
Put butter and chocolate broken into pieces into a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 second intervals stirring in between until melted and smooth. Set aside.
-
In your mixer beat eggs, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy, 3-5 minutes, scrapping sides and bottom of bowl half way through. Turn mixer on low and slowly add melted chocolate; beat until combined.
-
Add the flour and salt. Mix until just combined. Mix in chocolate chips and walnuts, if desired.
-
Pour batter into your prepared pan.
-
Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out slightly moist. Remove from oven and let sit until cooled.
For the frosting:
-
Cream together butter and cocoa powder. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl.
-
Add powdered sugar, vanilla and 3 tablespoons of the milk. Beat until combined.
-
Add more milk to desired consistency.
-
Spread over cooled brownies.
To create heart on brownie, cut a piece of paper to match the size of the brownie. Fold it in half and cut out your heart (you know, like you did in elementary school). Now you can use either the square with the heart cut out of just the heart itself. Just place on brownie and then sift powdered sugar. Remove paper and there you have it!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you mothers out there! Enjoy being pampered this weekend…you deserve it!
