Copycat Disney Corn Dog

Ingredients

  • 3/4 C corn meal
  • 3/4 C flour
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T cooking oil
  • 2 T honey
  • 3/4 C buttermilk
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 2 C oil for frying
  • 8 wooden dowels

Instructions

  1. Place dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix until fully combined.

  2. In a separate container, add the egg, oil and honey. Stir together so the egg is beaten.

  3. Pour the egg mixture into the dry ingredients bowl. Add the buttermilk and stir all together. Do not over-mix.

  4. Set thick batter aside and allow to set while preparing the oil and hot dogs.

  5. Place a frying pan on the stove and warm to medium heat. Add about 2 cups of oil, or enough for oil to be 1 inch deep.

  6. Poke wooden sticks into the ends of the hot dogs, about 3/4 of the way up the hot dog's center.

  7. Pour a few scoops of the copycat Disney corn dog batter into a tall glass. Dip the hot dog into the glass, rolling it in the batter.

  8. Fry the battered hot dog for about one minute, then rotate it 1/3 of the way around. Continue frying for another minute, then rotate it another 1/3 of the way around. Continue until corn dog is dark, golden brown.

  9. Remove fried corn dog from oil and let it cool on a paper towel. Repeat with all corn dogs.
