My son has recently become obsessed with letters and spelling. I’ve been trying to teach him to spell his name, but to be honest, I’m no teacher! I was having a hard time getting him to understand the difference between the alphabet, and connecting the letters to make words. I decided a visual aid would come in handy!
Here is what you will need:
– fabric (I used felt so the ends wouldn’t fray)
– Beans, rice or beads (to stuff the letters)
1. Start by jumping on your computer and finding some bubble letters to print out as a template.
2. Trace the letters onto your fabric. Cut out two of each letter and pin them together. Sew closely around the edge, leaving a small opening.
3. Stuff with your choice of stuffing. (I picked rice, since we have a ton on hand. Just make sure not to get it wet, to keep it from molding)
4. Finally, sew the opening closed!
Super easy, huh? My son loves them, and guess what?? He’s been running around the last few days yelling ‘ D… A…. X spells Dax!’ Obviously something about the bean bags has really helped! They’ve also become a fun game in our household. We put a laundry basket on the coffee table, and take turns tossing them in. Every time my son makes one into the basket, we all yell and clap like crazy! (What a great self-esteem booster!)
Thank’s Mariel for letting me take over your blog for the day!

For as little as I sew, I think I could actually do that! AND…it really would be so great for the kiddos…I can think of several games to teach them the abcs, using those!
Thanks!
