Hey Everyone, it’s Kimberly from Packed with Fun, the official blog for Get Away Today. If you’ve read any of my previous posts on Or So She Says, you know how much I love Disneyland. In fact, I love Disneyland so much that I went again about month ago with my husband and 20 month 0ld son… at eight months pregnant. I was a little nervous about how I would hold up but, honestly, it ended up being one of my favorite trips. If you’ve ever wondered about taking a Disneyland vacation while pregnant, I can confidently say you can still have a great time. With that said, I definitely have some Disneyland tips for the pregnant mom.

First, know what you can ride. It was actually great being with my toddler son, because he and I could ride all of the same attractions. Of course you’ll always want to listen to your body (and check with your doctor), but here’s a list of all of the attractions that I felt completely comfortable on: Monsters Inc., The Little Mermaid, Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters, Finding Nemo Submarines, ANYTHING in Fantasyland, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. There are a number of other attractions I would have felt comfortable on, but they either weren’t open while I was there or we just didn’t have enough time to ride them all. I will say, I rode Toy Story Midway Mania forgetting that it is a little jerky. I probably would skip that one during pregnancy next time.

Second, stay as close as possible to the park. Nap time isn’t just for the babes. If you can sneak back to your hotel for a quick nap, your pregnant body will thank you.

Third, keep hydrated. Drinking water is an important part of pregnancy and any Disneyland vacation. Keep a water bottle with you at all times and don’t forget that you can get a free cup of ice water from any of the counter service restaurants.

Fourth, enjoy the shows. Being a little bit limited on attractions meant I had so much more time to enjoy the incredible shows that I might normally be tempted to skip over. We loved Mickey and the Magical Map, Aladdin- A Musical Spectacular (this is one of my favorites anytime, but is an especially nice long break when you’re pregnant), For the First Time in Forever – A Frozen Sing-a-long (limited time only), Disney Playhouse LIVE, Frozen at the Royal Theatre in Fantasyland, Turtle Talk with Crush and more. While I was there, a long preview of Cinderella was playing at “it’s tough to be a bug,” which was really fun, too.

Fifth, schedule long breaks for lunch and do a Character Dining experience. Waiting in line is never fun, but if you book Character Dining, the characters come to you. Another great lunch idea that gives you enough time to relax and will entertain the kids is the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, located behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland. They offer  all-you-care-to eat chicken, ribs, coleslaw, beans and cornbread and feature live entertainment. It’s also located next door to the petting zoo where Woody regularly makes appearances. We got to meet him without any wait at all. It was so much fun! The ESPN Zone and Rainforest Cafe are other great options.

Next, dress for comfort. Comfortable shoes and a belly band can make or break a trip. I also brought layers and made sure to check the weather so that I didn’t get too hot or too cold on any given day.

And finally, ENJOY! Don’t pack too much in and remember you’re at the Happiest Place on Earth!
