Hi, my name is Jamie Lacefield.  I have 3 beautiful boys, Justin, Gabe, and Brigham, and one FANTABLOUS husband!! On top of having a house full of boys, I have the most amazingly fun crazy extended family too!! We have many crazy traditions and I would like to share with you the one we have for EASTER!
So, Mariel posted a status on Facebook about Easter traditions. My family is HUGE on traditions and the Easter one is one of my favorites 🙂 It’s called Egg Bashing! And it is done exactly how it sounds.
First everyone must decorate a hard boiled egg (we do this part at home before the party). The first year we did this we didn’t really have set rules so eggs came decorated with nailpolish and beads glued to the outside and even one with bubble wrap so the second year we made the rule of the egg can ONLY be decorated with the supplies inside the egg decorating box. This evened up the playing field.
So, at first we split in half and we have round 1. We call out random names of my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents and those 2 people will roll against each other. The eggs hit and usually only one breaks or cracks and when it cracks you are out, if it doesn’t you go to round 2 and repeat until the FINAL ROUND!! This is where it gets exciting!! We cheer and yell and the winner of it all gets to take home a trophy with your name and the year engraved onto it!
This trophy much be displayed somewhere in your home that it will be seen because this is a HUGE deal in my family and if you win you want to show it off and rub it in just a little 🙂 I took some pictures at last years event and my sister Shelby won it. I think she cheated because look at her egg!! It has crystalized spikes on it!! I want to know where she got that egg coloring kit!!
Anyways, this whole idea came from my Grandma Jensen and she got the idea from an instructor at BYU when she was there for an education week. We love it and we have so much fun!! We have been doing the “Egg Bashing Contest” for 17 years now!! I hope that we continue our fun and silly traditions for many many years to come and I hope that some of you will start some of your own!!

Freakish coincidence? We have a similar tradition called an “egg war” at Easter – I know, an odd name to associate with the holiday. Ours happens in the yard, and in turns from oldest to youngest we roll our eggs at each others painted-eggs and try to knock the yoke out. Once your yoke falls out of the white exterior, you’re out. Last eggs standing (which often is half an egg or in rare occasion not cracked) wins. It has become one of our favorite traditions of the entire year.

FYI – Freezing your egg like I did when I was 8-years-old means disqualification. 🙂

i love that you freezed it! Genius 🙂 I love the idea of having to knock the egg yolk out too. We may just do this too!
