I recently had a special request to give some instructions on retrofitting a wardrobe or armoire. Now normally, and unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time to figure out how to do it and write a whole post about something like this if we can’t use it for our home- we are just SO busy! But it just so happens that we have done this ourselves and so I thought I would give it a try.
In our last house we had very little space. We also had no extra money, and a lot of old furniture. But one thing we always have plenty of? Imagination, as Anne of Green Gables would say, that and a whole lotta tools. So, when working out a place to house our tv, we decided to revamp an old cedar wardrobe we had been given.
Now this was before I really started blogging so I didn’t take pictures! Gasp! And unfortunately, I don’t have an original picture but I searched for some images and found one or two that will give you an idea of what we did. This one is most similar, (it is from Bower Power).
The top was not ornate like this, on the bottom there was a fixed drawer, and actually the front skirt was broken like this one too.
This was the basic cabinet, with two 2/3 length doors, a fixed drawer and an attached skirt on the bottom.
Let’s show that before one more time:

We were given one of these armoirs by someone who moved away from our neighborhood. I’m going to keep it original, but I’m making it into a dog-proof kitty food and litter station. I’m putting shelves inside; the shelves will have holes staggered on opposite ends so the kitties have to climb up to where the litter box is. I figure, this will keep them from tracking litter so much and it will make the box easy to access since it will be on the top shelf. I might even switch to scoopable since it won’t be such a chore to get to behind various doggie barricades. 😉 I will post the process on my blog once I do it. http://gardenwife.com

Omg i love your redo! You are the only person to talk about this on all of Pinterest! I fell in love with one of these last year so bought it! Brought it home during a blizzard lol. I thought it would work out for my regular every day clothes but I’m living out of a storage tote placed in front of it. I need to add shelves desperately. Even if it’s only on one side. I was also thinking about using the bottom part to store off season clothes but I’m afraid of messing with the integrity of the wood. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time❤️

Looks fantastic!! That grey color is beautiful. Question: where did you find the tutorial on the first pictured example? I have the exact same armoire and I’m looking for some inspiration!!
