As a mother of 7, with mountains of laundry and dishes to do, and endless drives to and from activities, I love having something educational to listen to, to make the most of my time. Chores are much more enjoyable while being spiritually fed at the same time! Whether you’re looking for deeper insights into the scriptures, practical teaching tips, or uplifting personal stories, there’s a wealth of valuable resources available online. Today, I wanted to highlight some fantastic YouTube channels and faith related podcasts that offer just that – a chance to connect with the gospel in meaningful ways from the comfort of your own home or while you’re on the go.
Keep in mind that this list is not including news/current event podcasts, centered around The Church (Ward Radio, CWIC, etc.) I’m mainly focusing on the podcasts and YouTube channels that help me develop the most in a spiritual way. Also, I look for podcasts that give me new ways to think about something. I have found that several of the more popular Latter-day Saint podcasts are pretty basic and don’t do much more than read the scriptures to you. The following, on my list of the very best, are the ones that have REALLY, really taught me. Enjoy!
The Best Latter-day Saint Podcasts and Youtube Channels
The Stick of Joseph: I love this channel because they go DEEP. I’ve learned so much about the ancient temple connections, The Book of Mormon, and more, through the fabulous guests they have. It’s a great resource for both personal study and preparing for Sunday School discussions.
Follow Him: Hosted by Hank Smith and John Bytheway, this podcast provides engaging and accessible discussions about the weekly Come, Follow Me lessons. They often find guests who are considered ‘experts’ on the topics found in Come, Follow Me that week. Their approachable style and insightful commentary make scripture study more enjoyable and applicable to everyday life.
Barbara Morgan Gardner: As a professor of scripture, Barbara Morgan Gardner shares her deep knowledge and unique perspectives on various gospel topics, often focusing on the role of women in the scriptures and the Church. Her insights can bring a fresh and thoughtful dimension to your gospel learning. I read her book about women and the priesthood and learned so much!
Come Back Podcast: This podcast features honest and relatable conversations with individuals who have found their way back to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after having left. It offers messages of hope, understanding, and the power of the Savior’s love and grace. Each episode follows the story of one individual and their journey back to truth.
Scripture Central: This channel offers visually engaging videos that explore the historical, cultural, and linguistic context of the scriptures. Their content helps to bring the scriptures to life and enhance your understanding of the ancient world in which they were written. This is one of those channels that is easy to put my trust in, as everything is mostly factual and not as open to interpretation.
Gods Calling: This podcast isn’t updated often, but the creator, Logan Sunday, has a gift for discovering the mysteries of God. I always love his unique insights on the priesthood, temple, and the endowment. I always learn so much to him! His testimony is powerful and I’ve grown closer to God by pondering his messages and then thinking about them while in the temple.
Teaching With Power: This resource is specifically geared towards teachers in the Church, offering practical tips, strategies, and inspiration for creating engaging and impactful lessons. The author comes up with great object lessons and unique ways to think about gospel topics. As a mother, I have found it of value for teaching my kids the gospel.
Talking Scripture: Hosted by Mike and Scott, this podcast provides in-depth historical discussions about the scriptures in a way that is both scholarly and accessible. They often explore the nuances of the text and offer thought-provoking insights. We know how important it is to understand the time period and setting of each chapter or section in the scriptures. This podcast does just that and does it so well!
BYU Speeches: This channel features a vast collection of inspiring and insightful talks given at Brigham Young University, both new and old. You can find addresses on a wide range of gospel-related, academic, and personal development topics.
Bryce Dunford: Bryce Dunford offers engaging videos that often focus on practical gospel principles and how to apply them in your daily life. His approachable style and thoughtful insights resonate with a wide audience. I have loved his series on temples!
Church History Matters: This channel delves into the rich history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, providing context and understanding for significant events and figures. It’s a great resource for learning more about the Church’s past and very fact-based.
Maria Eckersley: Maria Eckersley is someone I’ve known about for many years, as she was also in the blog world. I’ve always loved her clever parenting ideas and was so excited for her to start doing Come Follow Me videos. She’s one of those special women that is just oozing with great insights and ideas!
Honorable Mentions ~ Potential Favorite LDS Podcasts
Okay, so these are actually ones that I’ve listened to a few times and haven’t quite decided if they fit on my list of favorites or not. Feel free to check them out and let me know if you love them.
- Cwic – Often church news based, but I’ve picked up on some spiritual nuggets here and there.
- Keystone – The creator used to be with Saints Unscripted. I’m not sure what happened with that channel, but he is now off on his own, from what I can tell. I love the simple explanatory videos. They have come in handy for me to send to people who email me with questions about The Church. The videos provide simple, to-the-point answers.
- Let’s Get Real with Stephen Jones – Stephen can land some stellar guests and touches on trending church culture and gospel topics.
- Scripture Insights – This one seems very straight forward when it comes to Come Follow Me episodes. No fluff, just discussion. I need to explore it more.
- The Amateur Historian – Put together by a guy who just loves to study. I’ve seen just one video so far, and was impressed with his insights. I’ll watch some more and hopefully, they’re just as good!
- Unshaken – Jared Halverson is such a nice guy! His podcasts tend to be mega-long and often times, I’m not picking up on anything too insightful. I prefer going straight to the cool insights. But, this is a great podcast for developing a basic understanding of every chapter/section, verse by verse.
- Ward Radio – Like CWIC, this channel primarily hits on current affairs in the church and trending topics. It’s light hearted and fun, but can be a bit childish at times. Every now and then, they have an excellent guest on that has taught me valuable insights about the gospel.
These YouTube channels and podcasts are just a few examples of the many voices sharing insightful and inspiring content. I encourage you to explore these resources and find the ones that resonate most with you and your family. May they bring added light and understanding to your study and strengthen your faith. Please email me at [email protected] to share any of your favorites!
