K, so can you believe it’s October already? Where has this year gone?! This is the time of year when it feels like all the money in my wallet starts to fly out when I’m not looking….cuz once Halloween hits, then it’s Thanksgiving, then Christmas….Yikes!

To help keep the bleeding wallet to a minimum, I thought I’d share a cute, fun little “craft” my boys and I like to make together when it comes to our Halloween Jack-o-Lantern, Crazy Halloween Pumpkin Faces.

I’ve found that in the past I’ve wasted money buying pumpkins too early (but at a great price) because we carve them and then they rot. (This Texas heat and humidity is not conducive to keeping pumpkins alive for long!) But I’ve also wasted moolah waiting until the week of Halloween to buy a pumpkin cuz they jack up the prices and then you’re the horrible mom that chose money over kids’ memories. Not a win win.   My solution? Creating funny faces on the front of our pumpkins that we can change and rearrange for a few weeks before actually carving these huge gourds.

My little guys and I begin by cutting out eyes, lips, and noses out of old magazines. (The kid-friendly magazines seemed to have some really fun options. My home decor ones? Not so much.)

We then arrange the pictures into a pile of like items so it’s easy to for my kidlets to choose their pictures.

It is so much fun (and easy!) to tape tape the eyes and such to the pumpkins. The crazy-faced pumpkin possibilities are endless!

Because we haven’t actually carved the pumpkins, we can get lots more time out of them before they go bad. We’ll be able to keep them up until Halloween by putting them in the fridge overnight until it’s time to carve. No more wasting a bunch of money on pumpkins. I’ll be putting those extra pennies in the Christmas fund.
