Hey Everyone, it’s Adelle from Packed with Fun, the official blog for Get Away Today. We love all things Disney, and let’s face it, candied apples are one of the best things about fall. So, we combined two of our greatest loves and have put together four different types of Disney inspired apples.
To start, here are a few of our cheats to making any decorative caramel apples. The key is making sure that the caramel is hard enough, or your chocolate will melt right off. You can do a real hack version and purchase caramel apples pre-made and then decorate them. Or, you can use your favorite recipe, but you’ll want to make them a day in advance. Some tricks for making your own apples – freeze your apples the night before dipping them in caramel. Then, be sure to refrigerate your apples for as long as possible before dipping in chocolate. Again, we recommend overnight if possible.
Now, onto the Disney-fication of your caramel apples. We are in love with the Mickey and Minnie apples that are available at the Disneyland Resort year-round, so we figured that was a good place to start. They take a little bit of time, but they’re pretty easy to make. You just take a marshmallow, cut off a tiny bit so that a piece of sticky part adheres to the apple and then use toothpicks to place your Mickey ears. (Just be sure to take them out before eating your apples!)
Once the marshmallows are placed, dip the entire apple in milk or dark chocolate (your preference). Refrigerate until your chocolate is hardened, then dip the bottom half in white chocolate and cover with red sugar before it hardens.
Next, decorate with yellow jelly beans for Mickey (his buttons), or white chocolate chips and a red bow for Minnie.
Our next version of Disney inspired apples are the Mickey Pumpkin caramel apples that are only available at Disneyland during Halloween Time. To make these, follow the same steps from the classic Mickey and Minnie apples, but use white chocolate to dip your apples, sprinkle with orange sugar and use a squirt bottle filled with melted chocolate to make your jack-o-lantern face.
And speaking of “jack” o-lanterns, Jack Skellington is another fun caramel apple you can recreate at home quite easily. Just dip your caramel apple in white chocolate and draw your simple Jack Skellington face with melted chocolate from a squirt bottle.
Don’t they look cute together?
And finally, we made an extra spooky and cinnamon-ny candied apple inspired by the Wicked Queen’s poisoned apple from Snow White. You can easily make your own by boiling hot water, sugar, corn syrup and red hot candies to your desired consistency. If you want the recipe I used, click here to read it on Packed with Fun. The apples turn into a glowing red – just like in the movie!
You can add gummy worms or plastic spiders to the apple to add an extra layer of creepiness for Halloween.
I hope these apple ideas bring some Disney inspired magic to your fall season! If you’d like to try the original Disney apples at the Happiest Place on Earth, we’d love to help you get there.
