My name is Tara, I’m 27 and I’ve been married to the most wonderful man for almost 3 years. I’m a military wife and am about to start cosmetology school which I’m very excited about! We have two beautiful little girls who are 6 and almost 7 months old. They are the highlight of our lives and our world revolves around them. My husband and I are going through the process of him adopting my oldest daughter, who he has treated as his own from the moment he came into her life! I am an avid reader and enjoy trying new recipes, making things for our house, writing on my blog that can be found HERE, doing hair, and pinterest!
How did you meet?
We first met in 8th grade. We were both in Chorus together and our class took a cruise to the Bahamas. That’s when we first started “dating” if its possible to date in the 8th grade! Back then, we promised each other that one day we would get married and live by the beach. We even wrote it in our yearbooks. In our early 20’s we met up when I was back in town, but I wasn’t ready to date. He texted, called, and even wrote me from boot camp for the next 2 years. When I finally asked him “WHY do you keep this up?” He said “I’ve been in love with you for as long as I can remember…so I’ll keep it up until you love me back.” I was sold. He was in California at the time training so we “dated” through Skype and when he was on leave we got married! The week he came home to marry me, we hadn’t seen each other in person in over 2 years. It was the best decision I ever made! The crazy part? The first place we lived was by the beach…just like we had told each other back in 8th grade.
What did you do on your first date?
Its hard to think about when our first date was. I’m going to say that it was actually on Skype, since he was in California. We both got dressed up as if we were actually going out somewhere. We got food from the same restaurant and sat on Skype eating, so it was as if we were actually “out to dinner.” I’ll always remember those times. Its hard having to be apart sometimes, but you have have to keep that “spark” and sometimes it means getting inventive which can be a lot of fun.
What’s the best romantic getaway you’ve been on?
So far, its been Savannah, GA. We were there recently on an “adult getaway” without the girls. We went sight seeing, ate at great restaurants and spent a lot of time laughing together. I think its so important to continue to “date” your spouse. Life can be so hectic, and its so easy to put other things ahead of your marriage. For me though, my marriage is one of my top priorities and I know its my husbands as well.
What would the ultimate romantic getaway be??
I think it would be great to go on a cruise again to just remember how we really got started. If not a cruise, then somewhere tropical and romantic!
What are your songs?
Oh wow, we have quite a few!
The Beatles “All My Loving“, Bryan Adams “When You Love Someone” Jason Mraz “Lucky“. Lee Brice “Love Like Crazy.” One of his songs to me is Lee Brice “A Woman Like You“. That’s all I can think of off the top my head!
If you were to make a special dinner for him, what would you make?
I would make him steak, since its his favorite. I would add a baked potato and corn since he loves though too. When we’re trying to have a nice night to ourselves when the girls are in bed, we’ll make our favorite food and eat it picnic style in the living room with candles.
What was the coolest gift you ever bought him?
I asked him and out of everything, he loves the clothes I’ve bought him the represent his favorite college football team. We both adore football, so that’s no surprise to me! He’s a very simple man, so extravagant things aren’t really ideal for him. I do adore how simple he is, but it does make him very hard to shop for when the holidays come around!
What is your favorite gift that he bought for you?
I think my favorite gift from him would have to be a full spa day. Him and my friend’s husband coordinated it so that we could have a girls day at the spa. It was so thoughtful and both my friend and I were so impressed! I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially since I was 7 months pregnant at the time and REALLY needed it!
Finish this sentence, “It makes me laugh when my husband…
Picks on me. He does it in such a funny way. He’ll impersonate my “mad” tone, or mimic me singing the wrong words to a song in the car. He also makes me laugh when he makes fun of all of the reality shows that I watch, but then I catch him watching along as well.
What are some every day ways that you show love for each other?
There are of course the hugs and kisses we exchange, but I think the main way we show each other is by being helpful. If he sees that my oldest needs help with homework while I’m making dinner, he’s happy to help. If I’m folding laundry at the end of the day, he joins in. He takes night duty with the baby to let me catch up on sleep. We both do whatever we can to lighten each others load.We really are a team, and its so great knowing that he’s on my side, and will do anything to help.
What are some things you like to do together?
We like being outdoors, and try to get out as much as possible. We like to be competitive whether its trying to up our rival putt putt game, go carting, or having a nerf gun war in our house. We love just hanging out together. I think that’s one of the things I love so much about us. We don’t have to go out to have a good time together, although it is nice to have a date night every now and then. We’re happiest in our pajamas, eating ice cream, and laughing at the TV or playing a game together.
If you could give your husband anything, what would it be?
I would give him his 1957 Chevy Corvette. He is really into cars, especially Chevy’s. That car is his “dream car.” Its also very expensive. If I were to ever actually do that, I’m pretty sure he would cry!
What cologne do you love your husband to wear?
He doesn’t really wear cologne, just the Axe Sprays. Those are good enough for me. When he puts it on, I swear I can relate to the girls in the commercial!
Finish this sentence, “My husband is especially attractive when…
When he’s doing things for the girls. There is nothing more attractive to me than a man being invested in their children. He is so attentive and is just putty in their hands. Sometimes, I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and notice that he’s not in bed because he’s gotten up with our baby. I’ll walk into her room and find him walking around singing her back to sleep, and I just melt. I love that feeling.
Oh, AND when he’s in his Army uniform. Something about a man in uniform:)
I love my marriage because…
Its everything I ever dreamed of. I love that we’re best friends. I love that I not only respect him, but admire him. I love that we have have absolute faith, trust, and loyalty for each other. I feel like I have someone on my team, rooting me on in every way, and making me want to be better for him, because he’s always so great to me.
