Hello ladies! I’m so excited to be here on “Or So She Says…” today! My name is Stephanie, from My Frugal Lifestyle. I’m a frugal gal who loves to share my fun and easy frugal tips, ideas, and recipes. I am also lucky enough to be a SAHM to 2 little boys, Tyler {5} and Dean {2}. I am married to Zack {the hottest guy around} for over 7 years and I’m looking forward to another wonderful 7+ more years with him. Life is great and busy around here, but I always try to make time for myself, which is why I blog. That alone is the best medicine for me.
Today I’m going to show you a fun Halloween tradition that I like to do every year with my family and for parties. Are you ready for Fall? How about Halloween? I’m so thrilled for Fall to come this year. Actually, I look forward to it every year. I love everything about it. The Pumpkins. The beautiful red, yellow and orange leaves. Football. Yummy spiced lattes. The smell of the crisp Fall air when you step outside in the mornings. Awww…… LOVE IT. My husband says I get a little too carried away this time of year with all my decorations and fun food ideas. To be honest with you, I think he loves it. He just won’t admit it because, well…. he’s a guy! Ha ha!
“Dripping Blood Cups”
My kids get a kick out of these every year. They can be a little messy with small children, so be a little careful around the little guys. Other than that, they are a hit at parties and are super easy to do.
Here’s what you need:
Karo Syrup {Light}
Red Food Coloring
Glasses/Cups {any kind will do, but clear cups work the best for blood effects}
• Pour your Karo Syrup into a shallow bowl. I never measure my syrup, I just guess with how much I want to use. It always depends on how many cups you’re planning on doing. Add your red food coloring to the syrup and stir. I don’t measure my food coloring either. It depends on how “red” you want your blood to be, so again, it’s completely up to you on what you want it to look like.
• Dip the rim of your glass/cup into the red syrup. Pull your cup straight up and then flip it over and set it down.
• Over the next few seconds your “blood” should be easily dripping down the sides of your glass/cup. Creepy. Scary. Cool. If you’re not planning on using your blood cups right away, immediately place them in the freezer for a few minutes. This will help prevent the blood from going all the way down the cup. You don’t want your kids grabbing a cup and have yummy sticky red hands. Like I said, this can get a little messy with the little one’s.
• If you are planning on doing a ton of cups {like for a party or something}, you’ll have to do the “freezing” part in shifts. Do a couple of cups, then instantly place them in the freezer. While they are cooling and the syrup is hardening, do your next set of cups. Then swap them. Now, don’t freezer them for too long. You’ll only want them in there for 20 minutes or so, just to stop the dripping process. If your not planning on using them for several hours, place them in the fridge after your done freezing your syrup. It will still keep the blood from sliding down further on the glass and the blood will still be soft, but not hard.
TIP: I love the fact that this fun Halloween trick is completely safe and non-toxic. Your kids will have a blast drinking “blood”. I also suggest using clear plastic cups for the kids and I prefer using wine glasses for all the adults. Have a fun filled Halloween and please be safe.
Stephanie
