I realize this is a sensitive subject, and that many women who are going through this are at different stages in their lives, relationships and emotional places. I don’t claim to know exactly what you are going through, but I have been there. Nick and I have two beautiful children- Halle, who we got pregnant with after I was on clomid, and Sawyer who we adopted after trying for 3 years and two tries of intra-uterine inseminations. These things I have listed are just
simple things you can start with if you are trying to get pregnant.
“It takes two, baby. It takes two, baby! Me and you!” Ok ok, just because you are the one who carries the baby for 9 months, and gives birth doesn’t mean he can’t do his fair share to help in the fertility area. (I’m sure he’ll tell you that he IS helping! Wink wink!) Whether you are ready to start a family now, or in a few years, you can encourage your lover boy to adopt these healthy habits. (Not to mention you want him to be healthy!)
1. Load his plate with veggies. Men who consumed the most antioxidants, such as beta carotene and vitamin s C and E, in their diet had more sperm than those who got the least, according to a recent study. Encourage him to eat at least 9 servings each day of produce, like dark green leafy veggies and citrus fruits. I know this is asking A LOT!
2. Encourage a smoke free home. The chemicals and nicotine in cigarettes can damage DNA. In a study from the University of Buffalo, sperm from smokers, was 75% less likely to fertilize an egg than non-smokers. Besides, you don’t want second-hand smoke around that precious new baby!If your significant other has trouble totally quitting, he can do it gradually by transitioning to vaping. There are vape pens you can purchase online for a start.
3. Put his laptop on a desk. Resting his computer on his lap can raise the temperature of his scrotum by 5 degrees. That can lead to a drop in sperm count. If you are trying to get pregnant, he should also stay away from hot tubs, and saunas. Also, make sure his pants and tightie whities aren’t too tight!
4. Spice things up in the bedroom. Men who were more busy in the bedroom, every day for a week, had healthier sperm than those who abstained. You probably won’t have to convince him much. For some ideas check out our other posts here. Also, lots of interesting info on increasing sperm count naturally can be found here and here.
