Hello! I’m Amy the blogger ‘wearing the heels’ at While Wearing Heels. I’m a stay at home mom to a sweet and sassy 4 year old little girl, who is honestly the one ‘wearing the {dress up} heels’, while I chase after her. I’m an avid DIYer that dabbles in home improvement projects, crafts, self portraits, creative ways to preserve memories and party planning all while on a limited budget.
I’m excited to be joining the ‘Or so she says…’ team and look forward to sharing some fun and frugal projects with all of you.
Today, I’ll be sharing a memory preserving project easy enough you and your little one can make together. Watercolor silhouettes!
You can make a silhouette of your first home.
Or even your child’s profile.
To make watercolor silhouettes of your own, gather the following supplies: white cardstock, watercolors, a shadowbox and…
an artist to create the masterpiece.
When the finished masterpiece is fully dry, prep it to create your silhouettes. Print out a picture of either your house, your child’s profile or even your pet. Precisely cut the outline of your shape of choice. Lay the shape onto the watercolor painting, trace it and then cut the shape out.
Consider some embellishments to add interest and preserve more memories to go along with your watercolor silhouette. For the silhouette of a child, consider having them write out their name, their age or do a hand print.
Embellishments for the house silhouette could be scrabble tiles that spell out HOME, adding your street address or displaying your house key.
Arrange your silhouette, and any embellishments you want to add along with it, into your shadow box.
Then, find a place to proudly display it and admire.
Watercolor silhouettes are a perfect way to turn your child’s artwork into a meaningful piece of art you can add to any home decor.
Happy painting!
