Is it weird to do a blog post about cereal bowls? Um, probably. But, we all use them, so …
Okay, so with six kids it’s time I’ve had to replace my glasses (broken), sippy cups (lost), silverware (in the sandbox), and cereal bowls (used to hold random food bits to lure wild animals into my yard.) I tell you what. It got a little crazy. If I’m out of small spoons, I just needed to take a trip to my back yard. I think I actually have an Instagram pic of my sippy cups find…
This was just the front yard…
How about I not let my kids take these things outside?? I don’t, anymore. After this sippy cup discovery, realizing where my dishes were going, I put the smack down on those kiddos. A.K.A. family meeting.
Anyway, with most of my bowls dragged away by racoons or broken, I decided it was time to restock the kitchen. I searched all over the internet, read reviews, and ordered a bunch of these adorable Modernist Bowls from West Elm. I got carried away thinking about how great they would look in food photography, and overlooked the fact that they are kinda small and pretty darn fragile. What was I thinking?? But, at least they’ll make pretty pictures.
So then I came to my senses and decided to search for the most practical cereal bowls for kids. I totally found it. I love them so much that they actually get their own blog post. That’s right. They’re called CaliBowl.
This is why they’re so fantastic:
They have a silicone, non-slip base.
Has a curved inner-lip that pushes the food back onto your utensil, rather than spilling over.
Low profile design for extra stability.
Microwave safe.
Dishwasher safe.
Thick walls so the bowl is not burning hot when pulled from the microwave (and if it does get hot, the base and top aren’t.)
Shatter proof. Yay!
Big enough for a whole can of soup (get the 28 oz.)
Light weight.
Fun colors.
Downside? They’re kinda pricey. A set of 4 for $20 bucks. But as long as I can keep them in the house, they should cut down on spills, burnt hands, and last for a really long time. That’s big for me. And, that’s the end of my post on cereal bowls.
If you have any favorite bowls, plates, cups, or utensils that are extra special and awesome for the whole family, I would love to hear about them! I’ll probably be shopping for them soon. 🙂
