For some reason, I always thought it must be hard to make chinese food (the yummy FRIED kind) at home…so, I never even attempted it. Until, I saw several instructions on line…I realized, this isn’t hard at all! And, it’s even easier if you already have a pre-made sauce that you love. When I saw Panda Express’s Orange Sauce at Costco…I was SO happy. Happy, like when you get a piece of chocolate cake. Happy, like when the hubs gives you flowers. Happy, like giving birth to your first child. I was really happy cause I super-like that Orange Sauce, but I super dislike getting Orange Chicken at Panda Express. Their chicken is yuck. For the life of me, I can’t figure out where exactly on the chicken they are finding those horrible pieces of meat. Between the chicken’s toes? On it’s forehead? They are snarly, chewy, slimy, and just nasty looking. I can’t eat it. So, how great is it that I can just make my own now…and use only good pieces of chicken?!? So exciting.
This is SO easy. All you need is some chicken, eggs, cornstarch, pepper, and your sauce.
This part really threw me for a loop, cause it seemed backwards. I had to look it up over and over to make sure I was reading it right. But, I was…and it’s absolutely right. So, you cut up your chicken in nice, yummy pieces. Whip some eggs in a bowl and in another bowl, put cornstarch mixed with some pepper. No exact measurements, just do it. Dip your chicken in the cornstarch and THEN in the eggs. Cornstarch, then eggs. Cornstarch, then eggs. (I was used to the other way around…using flour…dipping in the egg and then the flour…so, it was hard for me to switch.)
Place the chicken in a fry pan, filled about 1/3 way with hot canola oil. Fry until done.
Pour your heated sauce on top and you’re done! I served this with sesame noodles (which I ended up not liking enough to share the recipe with you), and green beans. Delicious & easy meal!
I bought a bottle of Orange Chicken Sauce for my sister for Christmas. This post made me smile. I’ll have to forward it onto her, this seems super easy! I’ll have to go get myself a bottle!
That’s so funny, I saw teh orange chicken sauce at Costco, and thought of your blog. Wow, you are good to do a post before I even mentioned it
Okay reporting back. We tried this Sunday night, it was fab! Thanks!
I have used this recipe of yours before and loved it! Using it again tonight but after reading the instructions again I began to wonder….did you ever find a noodle recipe you really liked? If you did please share! 🙂 Thanks for blessing others with your talents!
Brenda,
Thanks for the reminder…I need to find a good noodle recipe. I’ll start looking. If you find one before me, be sure to let me know. I love some good noodles. J
