I am so excited to be back and sharing a great family night activity for one of my MOST favorite holidays…Valentine’s Day! Now I don’t know about you, but in our house Valentine’s Day has become a family affair 🙂 Don’t get me wrong, I love a romantic date with my hubby, but I am also not about to pass up a chance to spend the month of February teaching my kids how they can better show love in our family and to those around us!
Every year for Valentine’s I put out some cute little mailboxes I got from Target in the Dollar Spot. Once a day starting February 1st I put a little something in each of the kids’ mailboxes, anything from a note telling them something I love about them or a pencil and notepad. It has become one of our favorite traditions, and as I got them out this year I thought maybe we could use them to not only focus on receiving love…but SENDING some love out as well!
To get started we grabbed an extra mail box we had. Then I gave the kids all our supplies, large craft sticks, glittery heart stickers, and pink and red pipe cleaners. The kids had a blast wrapping the pipe cleaners around each stick and then topping them off with a heart sticker.
Once the kids had our sticks all ready to go, I took them all and wrote on the back something simple we could do to send some love in this crazy world! 🙂
Every day we pick out one stick and do that activity for that day. It has been a fantastic way to spend quality time together as a family, and do our part to Send the Love! Our family motto for this year is “Be the Good!” and I am excited to use this fun, simple activity to do just that.
Thanks so much for having me, and feel free to stop by Blue Skies Ahead for some simple Homemade Valentines Ideas or a Valentines Scavenger Hunt to show your kids how much you care 🙂
I like this because it gives me a chance to do more of what we did during the Christmas season! For our advent calendar we had acts of kindness included among treats and family outings, so this is a great continuation of that. Thanks for the idea!
This is adorable, Tonii! I’m always looking for simple ways I can incorporate more service into my home. Great idea and I love the little heart sticks. 🙂
Love the idea of doing acts of kindness for others. It’s such a fun way to teach kindness! Thanks for sharing!
