Today, meet Brittany and Tim!
Hi everyone, I’m Brittany. I’m a wife and a mama to two fur-babies, Bob and Dips. I’ve been a speech-language pathologist for almost three years now and I work in a school district. I see kids from preschool to high school aged and I love it! I love helping kids communicate better and seeing them grow and blossom into their potential. I love coffee and ice cream and all things glittery. I’m an Oakland A’s and Philadelphia Eagles fan and love to go to as many A’s games as we can each year! My husband and I are excited to start trying to grow our little family here in the next few months. Fingers crossed! We’ve been together for seven years and married for a little over one year and are ready for a new chapter in our lives together.
How did you meet?
Well. Technically, we officially met on Myspace, way back in the day (2008). I didn’t know it at the time, but he was the stepbrother of a guy I had gone on date with once. The stepbrother showed my now-husband a photo of me, and my husband, Tim, said he was instantly taken by me and wanted to meet me. When his stepbrother didn’t want to introduce him to me (because, you know, there’s a whole competition thing between brothers), Tim took matters into his own hands and friended me on Myspace. But, since online dating was still kind of taboo at that time, we told everyone we met in line at Starbucks. 😉
What did you do on your first date?
Tim and I texted, Myspaced and talked before we ever met for an actual date. On our first real date, he actually took me to meet all of his family. To say I was a little overwhelmed is an understatement! He drove me around his hometown (my college town that I didn’t know too well) and we visited his grandma, cousins, mom and stepdad and brothers. I met everyone in one day! Seven years later, I guess it all worked out!
What is the best romantic get-away that you’ve been on with your spouse?
Hmm, we haven’t been on a whole lot of get-aways because we were dating while I was in college and grad school and money has been tight. But, our honeymoon to the Dominican Republic was probably our best get-away we’ve been on. We were upgraded to an amazing suite and it was just a lovely, relaxing trip. My husband discovered a love of snorkeling and realized his fear of heights when we tried to go ziplining (oops!). It was one of the most beautiful places we’ve been though!
What would the ultimate romantic get-away be?
Well, Tim is more of a mountains guy and I love the beach. But, I think we could both agree that going to Alaska or Colorado would be amazing. Or Ireland. Or Portugal (Tim is half Portuguese). Or Puerto Rico. Honestly, anywhere where we could be away from the demands of work and bills would be the most romantic get-away for us!
What are your songs or favorite albums that make you think of each other?
Oh man, there are so many! We love music and all types of music. Our families always wonder at our wide variety of music that we like. We could probably choose a song from almost any genre that would remind us of one another. But, one song that has special meaning to us is “Here’s to Us” by Halestorm. That was the last song we danced to at our wedding and it captures our relationship and everything we’ve been through to make it this far. Our first dance at our wedding was to “I Don’t Dance”” by Lee Brice.the As soon as my husband heard that song on the radio, he told me that it had to be our first dance song.
If you were to make a special dinner for him, what would you make??
Ever since he was young, his favorite meal, and the one his mom makes on his birthday, has been tri-tip, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole and peach crisp for dessert. Right now his mom still makes it for him on his birthday, but I’m sure I’ll take over that duty at some point. If I wanted to surprise him and make him super happy, I’d make him that meal.
What is the coolest gift you ever bought him?
Over seven years, there have been a lot of gifts given and received! It’s hard to remember them all. I guess I would say that the coolest gift I ever got him was more of a compilation of gifts. I found a killer deal on two rounds of golf at a really nice course. With that deal, I bought him new Callaway golf gloves and a box of nice golf balls (Callaway again, I think). He had just started being really interested in playing golf and he was so surprised that I got him a golf package. He really enjoyed it!
If you could give your husband anything, what would it be?
I would love to give him the means to start his own business. He has so many ideas! Whether it was a golf store, a contracting company, a video game store, that would be up to him. But, I know his true dream would be to open an animal rescue. He has the biggest heart, especially for stray animals. If we weren’t renting our place and didn’t have a limit on animals on our lease, we would take in every stray dog (or pig, or goat, or turtle) that needed a good home!
What are your favorite things that your husband has given to you?
My husband is the best gift giver!! I could just mention something I’d like in passing, and he remembers and I’m totally surprised come Christmas or my birthday. Last year I was so surprised when I opened my gifts on Christmas. He got me a Kindle, a fantastic bright pink purse that I’d fallen in love with at Target, a Philadelphia Eagles beanie and a J.J. Watt jersey. I had only mentioned that I liked the beanies that the players were wearing on the sidelines of an Eagles game we were watching and he totally remembered that and went out and got me one for Christmas! I’m a huge reader so the Kindle was perfect and I love J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans and loved getting a jersey. My husband went one step farther this year for Christmas and upgraded me to a Kindle Fire and I love it!
Finish this sentence: ‘It makes laugh when my husband…’
Makes up his own words to songs. They’re not always the most appropriate lyrics but they sure do make me laugh! It also makes me laugh when he breaks out his dance moves to songs. He won’t dance in public, but in our house, he’s a dancing machine!
What are some every day ways that you show love for each other?
We check in with each other throughout the day. We sometimes have opposite schedules since he works in retail and I work in a school district so it’s nice to keep I touch throughout the day with texts. When he’s home during the day, he makes dinner and cleans the house and when we’re both home on the weekends, I’ll make his coffee and breakfast and bring it to him.
What are some things you like to do together?
We’re huge Oakland A’s fans and we love to go to games! It’s one of our favorite activities during the spring and summer. We also like to take our dogs (our fur-babies) for day trips to the mountains. Living in the central valley of California, we’re close to so many wonderful areas, such as Yosemite and Monterey and we really like to take day trips and explore new places. During the busy school year, we often like to just stay home and catch up on our favorite TV shows. Our recent obsession is Fixer Upper!
What is your favorite smell on your husband?
Oh man, my husband loves cologne! I surprised him for Christmas and got him a bottle of cologne he has been wanting forever: Gucci Guilty. Mmmm, it smells so good! Definitely one of my favorites on him.
Finish this sentence: ‘I love my marriage because…’
Even after everything that has been thrown at us and tested our relationship (me studying abroad, family tragedy, unemployment, graduate school, etc.), we still make each other laugh and we grow stronger because of it all.
