My sweetie-pants, Shane, just turned 5! So, I thought I would share with you some of the things he received, things he already has and loves at his age, and things I almost got him…just in case you are in need of ideas! Hopefully, one of these days will we have the age of every kid and some gift ideas…but that will be a while. Baby steps, right?
So, walkie talkies. Shane LOVES playing “war” with his brother in the yard. And, part of being a soldier means having good communication with your fellow soldiers. That is where these come in. You could always buy some $20 dollar crap-o’s in the toy section or you can buy the real deal for just $14 bucks more! They work soooooo much better! And, bonus! You can steal them whenever you have a special need. Say, your kids are down the road at a neighbors house and you don’t want to scream like a banshee to get them home. Walkie-Talkies. Maybe you are on a road trip, had to take two cars and need to make frequent comments to your husband on his lack of driving skills, walkie-talkies. We always take them to the sand dunes, camping, snowboarding or wherever there is no cell phone service around. – The Midland 22 Mile Radio With Charger, $29.
Your little dude will love the challenge of a Wobble Deck and you will love that he is working on his reflexes and coordination! There are 3 multi-level games. – The Wobble Deck, $35.
Until we lost half of the pieces…the whole family loved Electronic Hyperslide. It’s fast paced, great for hand-eye coordination, and really fun! It’s easy enough for even little kids to have a turn, but fun enough for the oldest of adults to be interested.
The one pet my children can have besides a plant, black ants. They don’t stink, poop in the yard, shed, make noise, require a sitter when you’re out of town, or hump your legs. This particular ant farm gets outstanding reviews! The translucent blue gel allows you to see more of what is going and AND the whole thing lights up, makes a great night light! – Fascinations Ant Works Illuminated, $25.
Want the coolest house in the neighborhood??? Then you need a zip line, it’s that simple. You might want to require “Liability Waivers” because surely the neighborhood kids are more clumsy than yours. – Spring Swings Twizzler Fun Ride, $32.
The Stomp Rocket is a favorite and a “birthday staple” for boys…according to reviewers. You stomp on a pad and the foam rockets shoot up to 200 feet in the air! Total boy and killer price! The Stomp Rocket, $13.
I’m thinking that the next few items are going to get me a comment from a certain someone saying that these items promote violence, and to that I say “boo.” My boys LOVE to wrestle with each other and I think it’s great! They are interacting, having fun, and learning boundaries…and being boys! There is a difference between being violent and having fun, as long as it’s mutual fun…a rule enforced in our home. So, to deflect some of the blows off of each other…I thought a punching bag would be perfect! And, it is! My boys love to pretend that one of them is the boxing “coach” and the other is the lame boxer who trains hard and becomes a superstar! Hmmm…did my husband let them watch Rocky?? – Everlast Inflatable Punching Bag, $24.
What’s a punching bag without boxing gloves??? Everlast makes some awesome kid’s play gloves that are a great quality, and a great price! Since I knew these gloves would be used on more than just a punching bag, I threw in some head gear. Hey, if they’re gonna box anyway…they might as well be padded up so mom doesn’t worry! They have a riot together! – Everlast Youth Fun Gloves, $15.
How many times have I said that I love the Leapster?? Pop quiz. Maybe, 13? I love it. All the games are educational and fun! Shane LOVES his. He brings it in the car, to the store, plays it when he can’t sleep…and I feel happy knowing that he is learning his numbers, letter, science, etc. – The LeapFrog Leapster Explorer. We have previously had the L-Max, but the Explorer is a much needed upgrade. It has waaaaaay fewer problems (as in, the L-max has a habit of not working correctly…thus, becoming garbage), and the graphics are so much better. It’s much closer in quality to a Nintendo DS, we haven’t had any problems with the Explorer. I love the DS, but for 5 year olds…I love the educational games that LeapFrog has.
A favorite game among both parents AND kids is “Mr. Pencil“…it’s a fun game that lets kids practice writing their numbers and letters. The top-rated game on Amazon is The Penguins of Madagascar, which helps kids learn Math and solve puzzles.
Moon in My Room is so cool! It hangs on the wall and is basically a super great night light. Your dude gets a remote controller to keep on their bed and they can set the moon to how much light they want: full moon, half moon, quarter, etc. Or, you can put it on auto and it will cycle through all the moon stages. It will turn off automatically after 30 minutes. Note: I would TIE the remote to the bed! We are currently in the process of finding a lost remote…so no light from the Moon in my Room. – Moon In My Room, $23.
