I wanted to share something to make mealtime more enjoyable for everyone. Something that would replace crying and threatening with laughter and smiles. These Personalized Face Plates did just the trick.

I’ve been wanting a Food Face for a long time. But, I didn’t want a mass-produced plate, I wanted something personalized. I thought it would be more fun to dress and eat from the faces we already know and love.

Grandpa’s face is especially special since we lost him to cancer a few years ago. 
My kids have shown everyone who enters the door their new toys and talk about who’s face they want to eat next.

If you want to make one here is what you need:
-A white ceramic plate ( I got mine at Walmart for $1.70 each)
–Pebeo Porcelaine paint pens , I used black, brown, and blue (I got mine at Micheals with a coupon)
-A photo of someone
-printer
-sharpie marker
-pencil
-ball point pen

Here is what I did:

First I printed off a picture of the face I wanted to use. I made it black and white and sized it to fit on the plate. 
Then I traced the main features of the face with a sharpie marker.
Next I turned the page over and scribbled over all the lines with my pencil. You’ll want it as dark as you can. 
I flipped the picture back over cut it out and traced over my lines again with a pen.
Okay , this picture is really bad. I couldn’t get my camera to pick up the small lines on the bright white plate. But if you look really close you can see how the face image is now on my plate.
I followed the same process for the names.
Next, I went over the pencil markings with the paint pens and colored in a few of the features.
Following the Pens instructions, I let the paint dry for 24 hours, then baked them for 35 minutes in a 300 degree oven.

Now all you have to do is dress them up and have some fun!

*They are dishwasher safe. We’ve washed ours, so far so good.

* Pebeo Porcelaine paint pens are NON-TOXIC but for legal reasons say they are not recommended for surfaces that come in contact with food. I have decided to use them anyways as it is a recommendation not a warning. We don’t use the plates for everyday use, but now and then for special occasions.

*Another great option if you are not comfortable with using the paint pens, is to order a plate making kit like THIS one.
