Sabbath Activities – Write a letter on the Sabbath with one (or all!) of these fun templates Rachel created!

Hello, OSSS readers! This is Rachel, from The Mormon Home, back again to share one of my favorite Sabbath activities with all of you today.

I will never forget the long Sunday afternoons of my childhood. We stayed dressed in church clothes all day and weren’t allowed to play with friends or watch TV! The horror. Every time I complained to my mom that I was bored, she would tell me to do something “constructive.” One of her go-to suggestions for a “constructive” Sabbath activity was writing letters! We could write to grandparents, cousins, far away pen pals or the missionaries. I would grumble and drag my feet, but once I got started I always loved writing postcard, coloring pictures, and writing letters for friends and family. It’s a great way to stay connected and spread around some love.

To help make your Sabbath more meaningful with some “constructive” letter writing, I put together five fun letter-writing templates for your family! The first two are very traditional. These would be perfect to teach kids how to write a good old-fashioned letter: be sure to teach them how to address and stamp an envelope too! I was stunned to discover that my youngest children had no idea how to find and format a street address.

Traditional Letter Writing Templates

The next one is what I like to call a comic book format! It would work really well for a kid who likes to draw or a teen who might be more interested in writing just a few quick sentences in a couple of boxes. You could jazz it up with stickers and markers.

Finally I have a couple of social media templates! These are my favorites. They are great for the tech savvy kid or teen who just can’t think in horizontal lines of text. They can use the Instagram format for one large picture with a few sentences below. Or the Pinterest template might work well to capture a lot of different stories and ideas to send to a very special grandma or friend.

I truly hope they will add some meaning and fun to those long Sunday afternoons! I know my mom would approve.

Finally, there’s a PDF with quick instructions for each box and line–so you’ll be able to see how these letters are designed to be filled out. It’s a letter writing instruction guide.
