A Time Capsule is a great way to teach kids about documenting important events in their lives. Colette has created a printable so you can make your capsule in a jar this summer with a clean, clear (and cute!) label.

Hello, again! I’m Colette from My Computer is My Canvas, I’m super excited to be posting on OSSS today and hope you are ready for another fun printable for Summer!  If you saw my post last month, you know I created a Summer Bucket List for your fridge. This time, I’m here with a Summer Time Capsule – a fun way to help your kids preserve their Summer memories… in a jar!

Here’s what you’ll need… my printable and a mason jar; but most importantly, you’ll need a few souvenirs from your favorite summer activities!

My daughter and I have been collecting little mementos for her jar.  So far we have a glow bracelet from our July 4th glow-stick-figure dance party, some sand from a trip to Bear Lake, wheat from her Summer chores on our little slice of Idaho paradise, a picture of her with her favorite cousin, a rock from a hike, feathers from our chickens and some wood ash from our family firepit. I’m sure she’ll add more items as the summer goes on, but this was a great start! Your child(ren) might collect ticket stubs from events/amusement parks they’ve attended this summer, shells from the beach, pine cones or acorns from outdoor adventures, or maybe a Popsicle stick to commemorate all those tasty treats enjoyed in the heat.

Putting it together was as fun as some of the memories preserved in it!  She scooped in the sand, tied up some of the wheat and arranged it so carefully.  I can tell it will be something special to her already!

We don’t plan on burying it… it will sit on her dresser as a reminder of all the fun we’ve had this Summer!  If you’d like your kids to make their own – or maybe just make one jar for the family… you can download the PDF {HERE}. There are two pages of lid toppers, one for 2016 and a blank one for “any year” in case you’d like to make this a new Summer tradition.

Have a great time filling those jars with memories!  I hope to be back soon with another fun idea, until then… find me on Instagram and Facebook for more ideas and printables!
