Hi! I’m Arianne Cope from the blog Stillparenting. I’m a mother of four and a lover of all things simple and real. I’m excited to share inspiration and ideas here at Or So She Says with you every month as the new family/parenting contributor.
The warm weather has brought us all outside to swing, picnic, bike ride, and make music. Make music?! No, we didn’t heave the piano onto the back lawn. We’re jamming out on our new backyard music wall. The kids love it. Even the most reserved of grownups has been found pounding out a tune when no one is looking.
You can make a music wall in an afternoon using junk from around the house. Of course, you can always get licensed handyman services Cicero NY, but you also go the DIY route, which is more fun for the family!
If you have a fence already in your back yard like us, whipping up a music wall will be a cinch. If you don’t have a fence in your backyard, don’t fret. You’ll simply have to build a frame to hang your wire support on. PVC pipe or scrap wood would do the trick.
For our backyard music wall we took a roll of wire mesh we had sitting in the garage and pressed it flat. (You can buy some inexpensively at any hardware or home improvement store.)
Then we selected a corner of fence to hang the mesh on.
We looped a piece of wire through the mesh and around each fence post. You could also use rope, string or whatever else is available around your house to hang yours.
Next comes the fun part. Scour your house (and grandmas house and the thrift store if needed) for unwanted dishes, pots, and even garbage. Plastic jugs, wind chimes, wood beads, bells, cheese graters, coconut shells–anything that makes a cool noise when you hit it or rub it with a stick will do. It’s nice to find a variety of sounds and sizes.
Attach what you find to your wire mesh using string or wire or hooks of some kind. Just make sure whatever you use will hold up to extreme weather and repeated whacking.
The last thing you need is a bucket full of sticks, spoon, spatulas, and other whacking devices.
Let the music begin!
