Hi everyone! It’s Gina from Kleinworth & Co. again.
I’m back to share with you an fun little Valentine’s Day treat today. I absolutely love these cookies. Their fun Valentine colors…..the fact that they are chocolate. Love Love Love. I originally started with the mindset that these cookies would be frosted. But then as I realized that I had just purchased SO MANY bags of M&M’s with the intention of using them in baking. I am running out of time to make goodies for Valentine’s Day. Before long all these red & pink candies won’t be able to be used in my baking & there they will sit. So I scrapped the frosting idea, cut out a lot of time in the kitchen & added them to these fun Chocolate Sugar Cookies to make some really cute treats.
Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies
I used my scalloped heart shaped cutters – my favorite ones out of all my hundreds of shapes. I really had planned on using some of the other cutters in my collection but these particular ones just make me happy. So I kept going back to these – even after pulling out every single heart shape I have. 🙂 Guess I might need to make some more to get it out of my system so I can move on to other cutters.
These really are so good. Soft & chewy & those M&M’s add just that little something extra to make them fabulous.

I’ve got a ton of M&Ms too, so this recipe is perfect. It looks so easy, but so pretty too! Thanks!

I just made these cookies, and I LOVE them! I am making cookies to send to my fiance, and I decided to make our family recipe for sugar cookies as well as chocolate sugar cookies, which I have never made before. I made one recipe before this one, and they were NOT what i was expecting; they were way too bitter. Every other recipe I looked at after that one all looked the same, as in the ratio of cocoa powder to sugar was just about the same in each one. But then I found this recipe and decided to give it a shot, and I love it! It will definitely become a “staple” cookie recipe in our family!

Yay! That makes me excited to try them too! They’re super cute!

YAY!! I’m so happy you like them. They are certainly a family favorite for us.
Christina says
How many cookies does this make? I know cutter size will vary but I’d like to get 20 out of this recipe 🙂
Gina says
Hi Christina – you should be able to do that. I was using jumbo cutters & then the tiny ones. I probably had close to 20 – possibly more. But I didn’t count them. I did about 8-10 per sheet & I know I baked 2 full sheets + a few more on another smaller one.
Cassie says
Did you use salted or unsalted butter in your recipe?
Gina Kleinworth says
Thanks for the question Cassie! I think at the time I used salted but that is really up to you. With some recipes I am particular about which I use – but for this one it doesn’t matter.
