Hi, I’m Caz from A Little Learning For Two and I’d like to share a game idea with you that I hope your kids will enjoy as much as mine do! This egg timer seeking game is simple, fun and all you need to play the game is an egg timer.
The idea of this game is very easy; one player leaves the room while the others set the egg timer for 5 minutes (or less) and then hide it somewhere for them to find. The seeker has to find the egg timer before the time counts down and it rings.
For our youngest daughter (4) we use one timer but for our 6 year old we hide several at once and she loves to race around trying to find them before the time runs out and the bell sounds.
My girls enjoy playing this game all over the house as well as outside, and because all you need is an egg timer it’s a great game to play on holidays too. For younger children you can keep the game space to one room so that they can hear the timer ticking if they are very quiet, but for older kids this game is lots of fun if they have to search several rooms or the whole house!
If you don’t have an egg timer a watch with a timer function, an alarm clock or your mobile phone will work too. Just make sure that your phone has mobile security.
To add a visual learning aspect to this game we use whiteboard markers on our clock face to show each block of time as we play. Each section represents one five minute game which we can then add up to work out how many games we have played or how many times we can play within a certain time frame.
When we play as a family we also keep a score board which adds to the fun and sneaks in a bit more learning as well. For some reason Dad always wins but we’re pretty sure he peeks!
