What is the home of your dreams? Maybe your mind immediately wanders through your Pinterest boards of beautiful, spacious homes, white cabinets and striking marble counter tops. Perhaps eye catching decor, fun nooks, entertainment areas and play areas with perfectly organized toys and books and on and on.
In a world that pulls families in so many different directions, it is important to find ways to stay tied together. When children have a solid anchor at home, they are more likely to stay out of trouble and be a positive part of the community. I wanted to think of a family night lesson and activity that would demonstrate this act of “being bound together” in a visual way. I hope you enjoy this lesson and activity and that it can help your kids feel loved, safe, and protected in this crazy busy world that we live in.

After “correcting” the actions of my child, and reducing my son to tears, I followed the trail of pizza to determine just whom I might need to apologize (and potentially pay for their dinner) to. I peeked around the corner of the next booth ready to have my head bitten off by whomever was in the blast-zone. Instead of outrage or anger, I found an elderly couple and a father and daughter chuckling about what they had just witnessed.
One of the hardest parts of General Conference for teens is paying attention. Somehow, when a teenager sits in a comfy position, listening to beautiful music and comforting voices, they tend to sleep. Go figure. 🙂 This packet is not your typical General Conference packet. During this sacred Easter week, I’d like to add more holiness by thinking more deeply about Christ’s life and crucifixion. I’ve gathered eight scriptures from the New Testament related to Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. They are eight simple teachings or characteristics of Christ that are worthy of deeper meditation.

I have always tried to prepare for Sunday by ironing clothing or packing the Sunday bag the day before. I avoid shopping, entertainment, and stores on the Sabbath: very typical Mormon behavior. But beyond the expected behavior, I could see that special, extra preparations for the Sabbath could fill my Sunday with more meaning. My personal study made me want to do better at going the extra mile.

I really enjoy the month of February. First of all, it is short. Only 28 days! It is full of hearts, cupids, and candy! Yum. And, it is one month closer to Spring. Hallelujah! I also love that we get to celebrate random acts of kindness. There are few things that bring more happiness in life than service. This month’s Family Night lesson and activity are centered around service. I put together a fun printable to get your family in the spirit of serving–Secret Service style!
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we are in a congregation where we are asked to go and visit assigned ladies each month to really get to know them, share a quick message and find out if they have any needs to be met. It’s one of the ways we build friendships and help our leaders know any needs that families have (there would be too many for leaders to visit them all individually!).

I go to church with the hope that I can find peace and respite from disappointment and the frustrations of life. Often, en route to that hopeful communion I find myself on roads which lead nowhere near my desired destination. Last Sunday was a good example of the tendency.
