Hey friends! It’s Jana from Double the Deliciousness here today. I’m so excited to share these fabulous cinnamon rolls with you, and just in time for Father’s Day!
Who is still trying to decide what kind of goodie to make the Father in your life this weekend? Well, look no further! What man doesn’t like a good cinnamon roll? And a giant sized one at that? You can bring it to him in bed in the morning with a nice tall glass of milk, or save it for an after dinner dessert. Either way I’m sure he’ll love it!
We (the Young Women and leaders of my Church) are making these tomorrow and wrapping them up individually on a small plate (the cinnamon roll will fill the ENTIRE plate) to give to all the Father’s in our congregation on Sunday. We’re going to attach a cute tag that says something “punny” about Father’s Day…having a hard time coming up with something good, so if you’ve got any great ideas, I’m all ears!! Please help a girl out!
I’m sure all the Father’s really don’t care about the cute tag, they’ll probably just just throw it away and get to the “goods”!!!:)
Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Giant Cinnamon Rolls (she: Jana)
Ingredients
- For the Rolls:
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons yeast
- 4 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk warmed
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1/2 cup butter melted
- Filling:
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1/4-1/2 cup butter melted
- 1 tablespoon orange zest or lemon, both are delicious!
- Glaze:
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- milk for thinning to desired consistency
Instructions
-
Mix water and yeast; set aside. My rule of thumb for the temperature of the water is it needs to be hot enough that your finger can barely stay in the water when tested. That's not scientific, but it has never failed me.
-
Mix 2 cups of the flour with the salt, eggs, and buttermilk in your mixer with your dough hook until smooth and soft.
-
Add yeast mixture, vanilla and butter.
-
Add remaining flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Let knead in mixer for 5 minutes.
-
Grease or flour countertop (I like to just spray mine with cooking spray...makes for an easier clean up and works great).
-
Roll out dough into a square that is about 16" x 16" and 1/2 inch thick.
-
Pour melted butter and spread around on dough.
-
Follow by sprinkling brown sugar and cinnamon over the butter.
-
Roll dough to form a long "log" and then using a sharp knife cut each roll about 1 1/2 inches thick.
-
Place on lightly greased cookie sheet about 1" apart.
-
Cover with towel and place in a warm place to raise.
-
Let rise for 30-45 minutes depending on how warm you spot was.
-
Bake at 350 degree for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned.
-
Remove from oven and allow to cool for about 30 minutes.
-
When rolls are about done cooling, prepare glaze by mixing all ingredients together until smooth. Drizzle over rolls.
Here are some more of my hubby’s favorites, if you need an idea for Father’s Day!
Steak Fajitas (or chicken!)
Bacon Swiss Bread (can’t go wrong with bacon! My hubby’s favorite!)
I don’t have the slightest idea for a clever tag, but these look amazing!!
Haha…thanks! They really are delicious!
How about something like for the first cinna-man in a girls life? Terrible I know but I’m sure you could think of a play on cinnamon and man that would work! These look delicious!
Oh cute idea!! Wish I would have seen that sooner! We ended up going with “a sweet treat ‘rolled’ up with love. Happy Father’s Day!” Next time!;)
My husband was drooling over my shoulder as I looked at this. He asked if I could make these, so I am going to try. Thanks for the recipe, hope I can do it justice.
You’ll do great!! They really are a pretty simple bread recipe! Enjoy!:)
Wow, Jana…these look amazing! I’m sure all of the dads were happy to receive them on Father’s Day! 🙂
They were pretty happy!:) The girls did a great job and it was a great service for them to do for all the Dads. I think we’ll make this a tradition!:)
They look great, but as I look at the ingredients list I see 1/4 cup of packed brown sugar. In the instructions it didn’t see it being added. Now for the filling; I see 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar which I do see in the instructions, but I see 1 tablespoon of Orange zest (or Lemon) that are not added in the instructions, are they options…just wondering.
Have a Good Day…
You are right!:) oops! Glad you saw that! You add the brown sugar at the same time as the eggs and buttermilk. And the zest is sprinkled on with the brown sugar and cinnamon befor you roll them up. It is not necessary but I love them so much more with the zest! Hope you enjoy them!
Is the 2 TBS of yeast correct? Or is it 2 tsp?
What is the yield?
Oh goodness, I can’t remember exactly how many I got from this recipe. I’m thinking it was around a dozen. It all depends on how big or small you decide to make them. Hope that helps some…;)
