Sunday Sunshine

Happy Sunday! I recently mentioned in my The Moment I Realized Family History is Awesome post that I’m part of a family history class at church. We spend a lot of time talking about the importance of keeping our own personal history. It got me thinking how a lot of what I write on this blog is part of my personal history that can be passed down. I love that!

With that in mind…

After my family history class, I transition to Relief Society. That’s the class at church for them women. It’s my favorite one. With all the chaos of life, the moment I sit down in Relief Society, I feel exactly that… relief.

52 Family Night Lessons for Every Week of the Year! (she: Mariah)

Happy New Year everyone! I hope all your resolutions are going well so far! Something that I want to be better at this year is having weekly family nights or family home evenings.

For those of you who don’t know what family home evening is, it’s basically a night where your family spends time with each other and they usually include a little lesson, an activity, and (if you’re lucky) a treat.

Meet THIS Mormon and ‘Meet The Mormons’

Meet THIS Mormon and ‘Meet The Mormons’

So, it’s kind of a fun day for us Mormon-folk. We have an opportunity to introduce ourselves on the BIG SCREEN. Oh, ya. It’s a movie called… what else, BUT… Meet the Mormons. Here’s the scoop: “Meet the Mormons examines the very diverse lives of six devout members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Filmed on location and across the globe, Meet the Mormons takes viewers on a journey into the day-to-day realities of individuals living in the U.S., Costa Rica, Nepal and beyond. From their individual passions to their daily struggles, each story paints a picture as rich and unique as the next while challenging the stereotypes that surround the Mormon faith.”

October Visiting Teaching Message (she: Kiki)

Hi everyone, it’s Kiki here, and I’m so happy to be back this month with the October visiting teaching message. As usual, the printable is free, and would accompany a treat or a visit really well. This month the lesson is The Divine Mission of Jesus Christ: The Bread of Life. I’m loving all of these reminders of the different roles of Christ and hope you take a minute to read it.

How to Never Miss a Day Reading Scriptures

Today’s post is all about something that up until last January, was super hard for me… consistent scripture reading. Whether you read The Bible or The Bible AND The Book of Mormon, or whatever else enriches your life, this can work for you.

Okay, so as a member of the Mormon church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints), we are asked to actively STUDY the scriptures. And despite the fact that when I do, I learn a ton, I evaluate myself for short-comings, I find answers to prayers, and I feel inspired to be a better person… it’s still hard to make it a habit to read the scriptures every day. It’s been hard my whole life. I get too busy, too tired, too lazy, whatever. But, now I got it down, sista. I haven’t missed a day since January 1st and it’s all because of a simple little trick. The best thing ever.

Starting Today ~ April 2014 Inspiration

I’m sure you’ve heard it said that the hardest part is ‘getting started.’ Isn’t that so true?!? Whether you’re going on a diet, wanting to exercise more, tackle a big project, or draw closer to God… the hardest part is getting started. It really does get easier from there. Something that I’ve learned in life is that it doesn’t matter if you fail, what matters is that you keep trying. We are expected to fail, we are imperfect. It doesn’t make you any less than anyone else. It makes you human. But, by actively trying, we prove that we are anxious for a better life, we exhibit gratitude, we become worthy of His assistance, and we attain blessings. Starting over, trying harder… it’s worth it.

‘Because of Him’ & Photo Challenge ~ April 2014 Inspiration

Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday, my friends. With Easter upon us and swarms of bunny crafts, Easter egg ideas, and savory ham recipes surrounding us, I think it’s always nice to take some time and come back to what Easter is all about: Jesus Christ. I know it’s definitely something I need to do. When I stop and remember Him, what He did for me and why He did it for me, it put the rest of my life in perspective… My troubles seem manageable, I feel humbled, a greater desire to serve others, and comforted, knowing that there is a plan for me and that I, individually, am loved by God. I want those feelings every day. I NEED those feelings every day!

March 2014 Visiting Teaching Message Printable

Happy March! Here’s the Visiting Teaching printable for the month. 🙂

For those of you wondering what the heck Visiting Teaching is: In my church, all the women and men are assigned specific people in the church to visit monthly. For women, it’s called Visiting Teaching. We usually have a partner and are assigned maybe 2 to 4 women that we try to visit every month. The point of the visit is to get to know each other, support each other, care for each other, and share a spiritual thought.

We usually have a partner and are assigned maybe 2 to 4 women that we try to visit every month. The point of the visit is to get to know each other, support each other, care for each other, and share a spiritual thought. I did my Visiting Teaching pretty regularly last year, until it got towards the end of the year, and I was slacking. Eeeek. So, one of my resolutions this year is to meet with my ‘sisters’ every month, like I’m supposed to, and really be a better Visiting Teacher.

I Love the Book of Mormon (& it’s my gift to you.)

I remember the first post I did, telling everyone that I’m a Mormon and inviting people to learn more about why I believe what I believe. It was scary! I don’t know why. My readers are the nicest, ever. But, it’s still a little unnerving to put yourself out there and open yourself up for mean comments/emails, and a potential loss of readers and advertisers. But, I knew it was worth it to me. It is because of what I know that I feel so much happiness, hope, and peace, and it feels kinda selfish to not at least offer it to others. So, with much anxiety, I clicked ‘publish,’ and I wasn’t turning back. I was waiting for the rude emails to come in, but they never did. Not once.
