Hi, I’m Amy from Commona-my House! I’m a mom of 4 and love sharing home inspiration ideas on my blog. We’ve moved all over the world. And settled (for now) in the MidWest. I’ve loved something about each region (and countries) where we have lived and traveled to. I believe that things aren’t just ‘things’ if you surround yourself with objects that are meaningful to you….
So, with that in mind, I am so excited to share my favorite things with you, just in time for Mother’s Day! I’m pretty eclectic…and so is my list!
Gift Ideas for Women:
Classic Monogram Necklaces will never go out of style. There are so many out there on the market today, but I tend to gravitate to the simple ones…they’ll go with everything and I think simple always = elegant. The Vintage Pearl specializes in personalized jewelry in silver and gold. This classic gold initials necklace with their signature pearl drop would make any gal swoon.
Downton. I’m so into Downton Abby. I even had a fun Downton Luncheon and Book Exchange with my girlfriends a few months ago. And I have to admit, when Season 3 of Downton was over, I was craving more, so I read “Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abby” by the Duchess of Carnarvon. It was so much fun to read about the real life Duchess back in the day and picture Highclere Castle as the setting. And to complete my Downtonish trifecta, you’ll need a sweet, dainty, very lady like tea cup…don’t you think?
Tom’s Ballet Flats. I’m totally in love with these Toms Ballet Flats…they have a few choices but I think these coral ikat ones are perfection. I have big feet (size 10s!) and it is hard to make my feet look cute. There are so many adorable sandals out there at this time of year, but not all of them are flattering if you where a big shoe size. These Toms Ballet Flats are pricey {the priciest thing on my list} but for me, sometimes it’s worth spending a little more on something that I know I’m going to where…and with Toms, it is probably something that I’m going to where like, every day.
Terrariums + Chicks and Hens. My mother has a green thumb. Throughout our home, when I was growing up, she had plants (geraniums, ferns, Christmas cactus…you name it) in pots and terrariums. I love the resurgence of this simple, natural, table top, indoor garden element…the terrarium. I’m not a Christmas Cactus sort of girl either…and I don’t have a green thumb. So the plants that I do really well with are Chicks and Hens. This is one of my favorite things in my home: Chicks and Hens in a terrarium, cloche, apothacary jar or even a large mason jar.

Tortoiseshell. In any form…obviously, it’s not real tortoiseshell, but the design is classic. And right now, it’s my favorite ‘animal print’ {if you want to call it that} out there.

Jadeite has always been one of my favorite things…and I’m craving this cake stand. Or maybe I should say, I’m craving a cake and this cake stand!!!
Kai Lotion. I love scented body lotion. It lasts all day. Kai Lotion has a fresh floral scent that you will want to swear allegiance to from the moment of your first whiff! There are gardenias in their formulation, and it reminds me of my friend Danielle’s wedding, where she had gardenias in all of the bouquets and in all of the arrangements. Scent is a powerful thing….and this is such a pleasant fragrance, {feminine but not over the top sweet, and not too flowery}, that I may not ever switch to something else. It has been described by other users as “soft”, “feminine”, “sexy” and “delicious”. Yup…I’d have to agree.
Crewel/embroidery/needlepoint pillows. My grandmother used to embroider pillows. They were ornate trees, birds and floral designs. And that isn’t necessarily my style, but when I see an embroidered pillow I automatically think of my Grandmother’s works of art. There is a new, fresh embroidered pillow/crewel work trend happening these days….getting the texture and artisan look of embroidery work but in current patterns and colors. Loving this.
These are a few of my favorite things!
Hope that they become a few of your favorite things, too. And maybe you’ve seen a little inspiration for Mother’s Day….either for your own Mother…or maybe for YOU!!!
XXXOOO,
Amy
