I think we can all agree that Harry Potter has a special place in our hearts. We can’t get enough of this charming wizard and his friends, and I’m no exception. If there’s a Harry Potter recipe out there, I’m all over it. Hello all… this is Adelle from Get Away Today, and I’m sharing a copycat butterbeer fudge recipe with you. Whether you’re a witch, wizard or muggle, this Harry Potter treat is sure to delight!
Copycat Butterbeer Fudge
As you know, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is located in both Florida and California. It’s easier than ever before to visit and explore the magical world created by beloved author J.K. Rowling! However, if you aren’t making a trip to either locale any time soon, you can satisfy your craving for Butterbeer right at home. This copycat butterbeer fudge recipe is sure to hit the spot.
If you haven’t yet tried butterbeer fudge, it is a creamy, sugary, melt-in-your-mouth kind of dessert. It’s a mix of butterscotch, rum extract, and butter that creates a golden base with a light vanilla layer on top. It is soft and moist and dissolves nicely on your tongue. Wizard chefs weren’t messing around when they concocted this Harry Potter dessert!
Here’s what you’ll need for this copycat Butterbeer Fudge Harry Potter recipe:
Butterbeer Fudge Recipe
- 3/4 cup Butter
- 3/4 cup Evaporated Milk
- 1 Jar Marshmallow Cream
- 2 1/2 cups White Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Rum Extract
- 1 tsp Butter Extract
- 1 1/2 cups Butterscotch Chips
- 3/4 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup White Chocolate Chips
Using high-quality ingredients makes a big difference with this recipe. That’s why I stick to the Guittard brand chips and real butter for my butterbeer fudge.
You’ll want to make your fudge in a glass, 8×8 inch pan. Line the bottom of the pan with wax or parchment paper. Coat the pan and paper with cooking spray and set it aside.
In a saucepan, combine butter, evaporated milk, marshmallow cream, sugar and salt. Over medium heat, bring the ingredients to a boil, stirring constantly. You could tell the kids they’re whipping up a potion and give them a spoon with instructions to stir nonstop to prevent explosions *wink*.
Once the mixture starts to boil, set a timer for seven minutes. Stir and simmer for the full seven minutes. I wasn’t kidding about continually stirring!
When the timer goes off, remove the pot from heat. Working quickly , pour, 1 cup of the mixture into a glass bowl before it hardens at all. Reserve the rest for later.
Add 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips and 3/4 tsp of vanilla to the mixture in the glass bowl. Stir it together until it is nice and smooth.
Return to the reserved amount of your mixture. Add 1 1/2 cups butterscotch chips, 1 tsp rum extract, and 1 tsp butter extract. Stir until the ingredients are all melted together. Just a reminder in case you’re new to butterbeer, but it is non-alcoholic. Rum extract doesn’t contain any alcohol, just some yummy flavor.
Pour the fudge from the saucepan into the prepared glass pan. Spread it evenly to all corners and then cover with another piece of wax paper.
Place another layer of wax paper on top of the butterscotch fudge layer. This is the only way I could get the white vanilla layer to go on without combining too much with the butterscotch one! You can see in my picture below a drop of white fudge that started sinking into the bottom layer. That inspired the wax paper trick.
Spread the vanilla fudge onto the top of the wax paper. Try to get it as close to the edges as possible.
Once the white layer is smooth and even, flip the entire layer over so that the wax paper is on top. It’s just like turning a pancake! If you have trouble with this, use a second 8×8 pan. Line it with a piece of wax paper and spread the white fudge over it evenly. Then you can remove that piece of wax paper (covered in the layer of white fudge), flip it over and lay it on top of the butterscotch fudge in the other pan.
You can clean up the edges of the fudge before setting it in the fridge overnight to firm up. When you’re ready to remove, use a straight edge to loosen the fudge from the sides of the pan. Overturn the pan on a cutting board to encourage the fudge to slide out. Slice the fudge into small bites since a little bit goes a long way!
I absolutely love the look of this copycat butterbeer fudge! If you’ve cooked it correctly, it will be moist, but firm and will maintain its shape. If you get dry, crumbly fudge you can reduce cooking time. If it’s mushy, cook it a little longer than the recommended 7 minutes. It can be stored in an airtight container.

I rarely comment on recipes but this was absolutely incredible. It tastes identical to the Butterbeer Fudge in the parks and is the perfect texture. I highly recommend it!
