Yay, it’s here! A week full of favorite things, straight from the men in our lives. Each day will be a post from an “Or so she says…” reader, sharing their husband’s favorites. Hopefully, it will give you plenty of ideas for Father’s Day.
Since I’ve already shared some of my husband’s favorite things, I decided I would pick on my own Father this year. I introduced you to my dad a while back (when Jessica and I were doing the blog together.) You can read a little about him in this Father’s Day post…the first dad introduced is Jessica’s, mine is in the second half of the post.
Here’s my dad, with my momma…
…and, here are his favorite things!
Gift Ideas for Men:
My dad is nuts for hot sauce. Really. He’s PASSIONATE about it. Talk to my dad about hot sauce and you have an instant friend. He’s tried a bazillion different kinds, and he claims Cajun Chef Louisiana Hot Sauce as his all-time favorite. It’s not the mexi kind of hot sauce, this stuff is for southern food. The best place to buy it is, well…Louisiana. Otherwise, you have to get it online.
As I’m writing, I’m realizing that my dad is really passionate about lots of things! All of these “favorites” are not just favorites, they’re things he’s absolutely crazy about. The next being, classic movies and tv shows. I had him pick his top three, he chose: The Daniel Boone tv series, Rear Window
(Alfred Hitchcock), and Captain Blood
(Errol Flynn).
Besides movies, my dad loves to read. Again, I had him narrow down his favorites to three: Les Miserable, Cyrano de Bergerac
, and The Screwtape Letters
. (I also love The Screwtape Letters! Really gets you thinking about human nature and the temptations surrounding us.)
My dad has to wear a shirt and tie 6 days a week. 1 day for church, 5 days for work. He’s been doing this for my entire life, and well before, SO…you can imagine that he knows a thing or two about dress shirts. He’s tried the fancy-shmancy, he’s tried the poopie-loopie. His most favorite, best-value-for-the-money shirt is the Stafford Performance Super Broadcloth shirt from JC Penney. (On sale, they’re only $24.99)
When my dad’s not working or coaching sports, you will find him in his BYU shirt and Yankee’s hat, working in the yard. He loves gardening, taking trips to the nursery, and designing his yard. His must-have yard tool is a hula ho, which is great for weeding. Here is Amazon’s top-rated hula ho…
When we don’t know what to get my dad for Father’s Day, we get him a plant. So easy. Luckily, that’s what he wants! He is currently working on turning his yard into a forest, and needs all the trees he can get. He especially loves trees that flower, two favorites: The Idaho Flowering Locust and the Toba Hawthorne tree.
And, there you have it! Hope my dad’s favorites give you some gift ideas for your own Father’s. Check back every day this week for more favorite things! While you’re waiting for tomorrow, here are a couple posts from the past that have gift ideas for men:

Your dad sounds like my dad haha On his birthday in April we gave him trees and a gift card to buy some more trees and he couldn’t have been happier 🙂
It sure makes it easy, right?!? I actually think its fun to go shopping at the nursery, so it’s a good excuse for me too 🙂
Great ideas! I can’t wait to read more. Love the hot sauce idea & My hubby’s is in need of dress shirts. I’ll have to give the jc penny shirt a try! Thx!
