I love grocery stores that are stressed-out-mom friendly. One of our local stores has free snacks and balloons for kids. The employees are so sweet to offer them to moms. I love the service where you pay for your groceries, then pull your car up to their door, and they load them all into the back of the car for you. I applaud stores like that! But, it’s always good to have a plan of your own… fruit snacks in your purse, an iPhone with family pictures on it, little trinkets that they can play with, whatever. That’s why I thought it would be fun to start offering Grocery Store Games on the blog!

Top-Rated Board Games for Bored Families (she: Mariah)
With the weather getting colder we find ourselves venturing less and less into the outdoors and more and more toward the comfort of our fireplaces. Obviously board games can be whipped out no matter the weather, but in these cold winter months they can provide a family some much needed indoor entertainment and fun! So, I went on a search to find some really highly recommended board games for you to add to your collections this winter. I tried to find some that are less well-known because I know you’ve all got Monopoly and Clue already stashed away.

One of my family’s favorite go-to road trip games is “Would you rather?” It can keep my kids entertained, chatting and laughing for miles and miles. Don’t Eat Dad Game ~ Perfect for Family Night (she: Veronica)
This is a fun activity that you can play any time, but because Father’s Day is coming, I thought I’d put a fun spin on it. It’s a game that is typically called “Don’t Eat Pete”, and we love it. It’s a great game for ALL AGES, which is always a huge bonus. For Father’s Day we’ve changed the name to “Don’t Eat Dad”.
Family Game – “Shoveling Snow” (she: Heather)
Happy Monday OSSS readers! Heather here with a fun “snow” game for you and your family. For about the first two years of posting on my blog, FamilyVolley.com, I always posted a family game on Fridays. Hence the name of my book, Family Fun Fridays, named after the games that I posted weekly. Hands down, one of the games that has gotten the most attention is “Shoveling Snow.” You have all the resources you need, right in your house, and it will provide laughter and bonding to help your family come closer together and make memories too!
Olaf Beach Ball Game and Printable (she: Adelle)
Hey Everyone, it’s Adelle from over at PackedwithFun.com, the official blog for Get Away Today, where I get to share fun ways to keep vacation magic alive at home. School has started and depending on where you live, fall may already be in the air. Although I love the change of the seasons, every once in a while I start to feel a little like Olaf and wish to bring back summer!
A few months ago I put together this Olaf beach ball game and printable that is perfect for those days when your kids long for some summer fun. My kids have had so much fun with it, that I wanted to share it with you!
You can play any basketball-type game at your party with the Olaf hoop. We bought a 24 pack of 6-inch beach balls for less than $10 at the party store. We used them as decorations for our Frozen themed party, in the Olaf Ball Game and then gave them to the kids to take home as a party favor! We of course held onto a few beach balls and the Olaf inspired summer fun continues on at our house year round.
Back to School Mad Libs Round Up (she: Brooke)
Hello, hello! It’s Brooke from Blissful Roots here with you today. I’m always so excited to spend time here with Mariel and her readers! And I’m always so excited about this time of year. Fall (my favorite season) is on the way, back to school time is just around the corner, and this year it will mean baby boy number four in October for our family. So many fun things to look forward to.
I like to try and add a few new activities to our countdown each year, just to mix things up a bit for my boys. In July, our family took a big road trip from Utah to Arkansas. I packed up a ton of activities to keep my boys busy during the 23 hour (one way!) drive. And ya know what? The big book of Mad Libs was their favorite! It was mine too, actually. I love how my four-year-old already knows that a noun is a person place, or thing (thank you, Mad Libs). And we all get a kick out of how funny our stories turn out. My twins laugh and laugh and laugh over them!
So, I thought I’d see if I could round up a few back to school Mad Libs to add to our countdown this year. They are the perfect way to add a bit of light-hearted humor to what can be a kind of scary first day.
Entertaining Kids Without Electronics: 8 Family Games They Will Love (she: Jamie)
It’s easy to overdose kids with TV, video games, and catapulting Angry Birds around (everything my kids are currently doing right now 🙂 – but I encourage you to try to disconnect from electronics a few times this Summer and teach your kids they can actually survive without them. Entertaining kids without electronics doesn’t have to be a lot of work!
Many families pass down photos, memories, & names – well our family passes down GAMES! I decided to share our absolute favorite ones with you! Each time we play these I can’t help but think of going to Grandma’s and having some good ol’ family fun!
Shape Game for Preschoolers (with Popsicle Sticks)
Hello everyone, it’s Amy from The Connection We Share, and I’m happy to be back with you again!
Lately, I’ve been busy making learning materials for my daughter Elle, one being this shapes matching game.
I have a regular 9-5 and when I’m at work, my in-laws or my husband looks after the kids (yes, I’m very lucky, I know.) They LOVE looking after the kids and they play with them, take them to the park , take them out for lunch and so on but 1 thing I thought they would enjoy is doing some learning activities together.
To make it really easy for my in-laws and husband to teach Elle, I have a box of educational activities all ready to go so when the time is right, they could take out some of these activities and do it with her.
