Okay, moms of high schoolers, we get it. The dance is coming, the pressure is on, and suddenly your kid needs to be a romantic comedy lead. It’s exciting, it’s adorable, and it’s also low-key terrifying trying to help them brainstorm something fun and creative and actually memorable. Fear not! As a veteran of many high school dances (from the sidelines, thankfully!), I’ve compiled a list of creative dance proposal ideas – some straight from my own kids’ playbook, others gleaned from the wilds of the internet. Consider this your survival guide to dance proposal season.
22 Creative Ways to Ask Someone to a School Dance
- I would TOE-tally love to bring you to [Dance Name]
- I couldn’t “Weight” to ask, Will you go to [Dance Name]
- Our Night Would be a “Hit”, will you go to [Dance Name]
4. Let’s “Stick” Together at [Dance Name] (Spell the word ‘stick’ with the stickers
5. Fill up a bunch of balloons and put them in their car or room. Inside one balloon is a small piece of paper with your name and the dance invitation. They have to pop the balloons to find the hidden message
6. Surprise them with a sticky note invitation! (With Permission), Cover their car or front door with colorful notes , spelling out your message. Or, create a fun scavenger hunt by hiding a single note with your name and the invitation among a sea of other sticky notes.
7. Spell out The Invitation with Red solo cups on their porch along with a poster that says “Dont let me go “Solo” to [Dance Name]
8. I couldn’t “Bear” to go without you, will you go to [Dance Name]
9. With chalk, draw an outline of a body on their front porch. Along with a poster that says “I’m Dying to go with you to [Dance Name]
10. Light a bunch of little candles on their porch (as long as it’s safe) and leave a poster that says “[Dance Name] Would be “Lit” with you, will you go with me?
11. [Dance Name] Would “Suck” without you, will you go with me?
12. Order a meal from in-n-out and leave it on their doorstep with a poster that says “[Dance Name], You IN or OUT?
13. Buy some uncooked dry beans and then make a poster that says “Ive ‘Bean’ waiting to ask you to [Dance Name]” then cover the poster with beans until its barely visible.
14. Leave a soccer ball with a poster that says “Will you ‘Kick it’ with me at [Dance Name]?”
15. leave silly string a poster that says “I’d be silly if I didn’t ask you to [Dance Name]”
16. Make a poster that says “Lets float over to [Dance Name]” and punch holes along the top of the poster and then tie enough helium ballons to it until it can float off the ground.
17. Leave a bunch of rubber duckies all over their porch with a poster that says “I would be one lucky Duck if you went to [Dance Name] with me”
18. Leave a nerf blaster with a poster that says “[Dance Name] would be a Blast with you”
19. Buy a bunch of candy bars with nuts in them (as long as your date isn’t allergic) and leave a poster that says “I would go nuts if you went to [Dance Name] with me
20. Leave fake vomit on their porch with a poster that says “I would be sick if you didnt go to [Dance Name] with me”
21. Leave Hotdog or Hamburger buns with a poster that says “[Dance Name] Would be buns without you”
22. Leave a box of Crumble Cookies on their porch and on the underside of the lid write “I would Crumble if you didn’t go to [Dance Name] with me”
