Hey, it’s Adelle from Packed with Fun, the official blog for Get Away Today. Once Memorial Day weekend is over, the summer officially begins and my kids start begging for some summer fun. Our family loves to go to Disneyland so much, that we decided to recreate it at home to extend some of that vacation magic. Here are six activities you can set up to turn your backyard into Disneyland. This would work at a nearby park, too, for hours of Disneyland fun:
Make your own Splash Mountain by putting a kiddie pool at the bottom of the slide. Sing Zippidy Doo Da while you’re playing!
Spin like crazy with hula hoops and make your own version of the Mad Tea Party. Play “Very Merry Un-birthday” while your kids are hula hooping and spinning. Have them try to to keep going until the music stops – just like on the ride!
Make your own Big Thunder Mountain Railroad with pool noodles and a sprinkler track. Have your kids help build your own version of the wildest ride in the west!
Soarin’ Over California is one of the most popular rides at Disney California Adventure Park, and it recently completed a massive HD upgrade. This version of the ride isn’t quite as high tech, but your kids will think it’s just as fun! Place a sprinkler under the swings for extra fun, or, you can squirt your kids with a squirt gun as they soar if you can’t get a sprinkler to the swings.
Radiator Springs Racers is also without doubt one of most popular attractions at the Disneyland Resort. You can make your own version with some traffic cones on any surface.
Your kids can race on foot, skates, scooters, bikes… anything at all! You can draw a large track with sidewalk chalk as well if you’re on a hard surface.
Toy Story Midway Mania is another super fun ride over at Disney California Adventure Park. You can make your own version with kid toys that you probably already have around home. We used giant water squirters to knock over bath toys as one of our carnival rides. Your kids can squirt a bulls-eye and even each other, toss water balloons, anything at all that is carnival like and reminds you of Toy Story!
I hope these backyard games add an extra element of Disney magic to your summer! This year Disneyland is celebrating their 60th Anniversary with the Diamond Celebration. They’ve added three new nighttime shows and have made some fun surprise updates to some of my favorite rides. You won’t want to miss it!
